How long does it take for an image uploaded to 404?

Essentially, all threads 404 within a matter of minutes to hours. But images don't 404 along with the thread. If you have saved the link URL (say in a word document), you can still access the image by using the link after a thread has 404'ed.
Last night I tried running a test by saving an image link from a thread that has 404'ed almost 24 hours ago. The image link is still active. I have cleared my browsers history, cache, cookies, etc, since then while also having turned my computer off and on.
Anyone have any idea how long an image link stays alive before 404'ing? There's no possible way image links are forever. This IS an image board after all... that would be too much undue stress on the servers to keep every photo ever.
Autoban is broken

So, earlier today (or technically yesterday due to timezones) I posted a comment on /v/ about game reviews and when they could be posted. In it I wrote out a date and time, except I replaced all the numbers with the letter "x" to denote that it was a variable date (as in it could apply to many situations in the context). For some reason, the ban-filter did not like this and without warning banned me, and because of the duration of the ban I could not appeal. This was obviously the ban-filter failing or a failure of communication.
Basically the ban-filter is a stupid idea when applied to something as abstract as a few x's in a row. I mean I'm guessing there was some thought-process behind this, but I doubt my post applied to said thought-process. I can understand why it exists but I think it needs to be fixed.
My basic suggestion to fix this is three-fold. First, it should warn first then ban. How the fuck was I supposed to know it would ban me? I wouldn't, no sane person would, it's stupid to think I would know not to make a comment with x's in it. Second, there really needs to be more explanation than "you used a banned word" for the ban description. Hell, for all I know some other word triggered the filter, I'm just assuming it was the x's. I really had no idea what was going on when I got the ban. And third, auto-bans really should be reviewed by moderators, or maybe even janitors. The auto-ban isn't perfect, it fails, especially for a filter so abstract as x's. There should be human review to make sure someone wasn't banned for no good reason.
Basically I got banned and now I want to whine about it even after the ban has expired.
Priorities and time managment of moderators and janitors

The other day, I was banned for this image.
It was a thread regarding discussion of autisitc kids and it was a lead-in to a joke about "Who was phone," thus the reason she was has a phone
(inb4 hurr durr /b/tard newfag)
However, I pretty much abandoned the thread because people started talking about childhood sexuality (obvious trolling) and I went to work on a project. 15 minutes later, the thread 404'd and I was banned for CP- that's all it said for the ban reason.
I appealed the ban on rizon- of course no mods were there- and since then my IP address has changed since my router seems to have reset itself.
If the ban was lifted, thank you.
However, I am quite annoyed that you banned me for an innocent image.
Maybe the mod thought I was trying to hint at CP and banned me by mistake.
Also disappointing is that I had reported some spam and it was still there after I was banned.
Either way, I think Mods are really wasting time by doing stuff like this. Moot has stated that there is a problem with
moderation. However, I think moderation needs to be better
after reading over the upcoming moderation changes.
Change /vg/ into /gt/ - Generals threads

/vg/ is basically dumping ground, because most of those discussion in this board have discussed to death, that is why it is good idea treat it as a trash ground where homestuck generals, heck maybe even /b/readsbe part of the board. Just look at most posted generals like KSG, SC2 and LoL. All of those generals doesn't discuss about video games and it is all about K-Pop, avatarfaggotry, they treat it as like chatroom and barely any video games discussion. it is funny how moot putted rule about shouldn't do avatarfaggotry, yet nobody gets banned about it. Why not treat it as trash since mods doesn't care, it will maybe help other boards get rid of many cancerous generals.
/v/-/vg/ needs to merge

Would a merger of /v/ and /vg/ save the boards?
Let's face it, /vg/ is stagnant tripfag circlejerking with nothing new ever coming up, and it stops new content on /v/ gathering steam, because everything that becomes remotely popular is moved to /vg/, where it will therefore die, because no-one goes to /vg/ to browse for new content.
/v/ itself is full of shitposting, nonvidya content and 'board culture' consisting of complaining how reddit is ruining everything.
/vg/ was only created for the Starcraft 2, LoL generals etc that constantly had threads up, but now EVERY game that is remotely popular is moved to /vg/, so there is just constant discussion there, creating isolated communities which usually die off.
TL;DR we need a merger.

I can't be the only one whose Captcha has a 50% or so failure rate, regardless of whether or not I type it in right.
Anyways, I'm well aware that moot isn't going to do anything about that because apparently ReCaptcha is the only post verification that can handle 4chan's traffic. As much as it infuriates me, I guess it can't be helped.
What I'd like to request is that when images are posted, the Captcha is verified BEFORE the image starts uploading, so in the event of Captcha failing, I don't have to wait for the image to upload again.
Also, please take Captcha off /f/. The Zeitgeist "spam" that we're talking about is this one consistent poster who makes 2-4 flash posts a day of the SAME SHIT over and over again.
Adding Captcha to /f/ did not help AT ALL. We had NO issues with spambots, only one consistent shitposter that apparently mods couldn't be fucked to deal with.
Shitposters on /v/ is probably an organized group

Can we get some sociologist to analyze this shit? I swear this must be pathologic, there's just no fucking way a thread can turn into that in a matter of a minute or two.
On the other hand, now I'm pretty sure that there's a vocal minority on /v/ whose simple aim is to destroy the board. I don't know why, I don't know who these people are, but I'm sure as fuck it can't be everyone, and you will all be able to tell when you'll read this thread
