Argument from Analogy

1 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: LogicalFallaciesInfographic_A3 copy.jpg]
All right, so I've noticed a lot of users here on the site use Argument from Analogy in discussions. This is fine, but the first reply to posts that use this method of argumentation is >those aren't the same thing, dumbass In a community that seems to prize itself as being smarter than the average bear (where every "rate yourself" thread on /b/ has all the posters rating their intelligence to be the equivalent of 170 IQ), this is rather humorous at best, but detrimental to discussions at worst. In order to rectify this, let's have a short look at Argument from Analogy. Argument from Analogy is a method of argumentation employed often in real life discussions. It seeks to clarify the nature of an object x by relating it to an object with a similar nature y. By "similar nature," I mean that they function similarly -with respect to- whatever is being discussed. We'll see what is meant by this in the next post.

Free Montana

Free Montana Montana to attempt strike down draconian legislation whith a new senate bill SB377. Medical marijuana advocates are attempting what is being called a final try this legislative session to fix the 2011 law that imposed such tight restrictions on what was then a booming industry that it has been called a defacto legislative repeal of the 2000 law approved by 62 percent of voters. In June 2011, there were 30,000 medical marijuana carders in Montana and about 4,400 providers registered with the state to supply cannabis to cardholders. As of last month, the numbers had plummeted to about 7,500 cardholders and 300 providers. Shortly after passage of the 2011 law, the Montana Cannabis Industry Association and others challenged it in court. SB377 creates a regulatory framework that's reasonable and workable while the revenue would be divvied up four ways. One-fourth would go to local governments for public works projects; one-fourth for the home- and community-based Medicaid waiver services; one-fourth to the public schools' facility and technology account; and one-fourth to improve state parks and recreation areas. Why retro of all things?

4 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: tumblr_mdpev4pyUH1r78gaio1_1280.jpg]
>/vr/ was apparently made as yet another containment board >retro gaming was rarely- if EVER a topic that involved, advocated, or caused shitposting If I may suggest an alternative, change /vr/ into "/vi/ - Videogaming Industry". This would get rid of the "HATEBONER BULLSHIT" moot pointed out and cut most, if not all topics that eventually go down the tubes.

/sp/ is pretty terrible at the moment

0 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: 1342558375627.jpg]
Been visiting /sp/ for years, tho I rarely come anymore. Figured I'd explain why that is. >moderation Everyone knew we needed more moderation on that board. The dubs, tripfag circlejerks, and feel threads were rampant and annoying. We didn't need nazi moderation however. Part of what made /sp/ great was the 'sports bar' culture. We'd discuss sports and games, then between that we'd have interesting OT threads for people to participate in. It kept the Euros and the Americans civil for the most part (minus the USA vs. Yurop threads) since everyone had threads to hang out in. Basically the board had a great culture. That is now gone. It's a shitter version of about 1000 other sports forums on the web for people who want serious sports discussions. What kept me coming back to /sp/ was because it was hilarious, now it's bland. >Generals I'm pretty sure this is what the moderation wants from the board, for all discussions to be consolidated in general threads. This is terrible and further ruins what was a great board personality. There's nothing interesting or unique about general threads, and beyond that, they ARE the new tripfag circlejerks. Take a look in any of those generals and you'll see for yourself. Moot if you're out there, fix the board please. It's lame as fuck. I know deep down you understand why /sp/ used to be GOAT.

/a/'s moderation isn't trying anything new to remove shitposters

Just a message to all you /a/ mods and janitors out there. Congratulations on being complete fuckwits who can't even keep a few shitheads off the site. It doesn't matter if they are ban evading or not. You should still be able to keep them off using other methods. Of course, I should also blame moot for not doing anything to curb the problems. He should constantly be innovating new tactics to deal with them, and instead he hasn't been on /q/ in over a week. Just wanted to throw this out there so you know you're doing a shitty job.

the board of feels.

4 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: feel..jpg]
Well, many of you may noticed the sheer amount of feel threads of boards like /v/ or /fit/. How about a board called /fl/ or maybe even /feel/ (yes ik 4 letters) so the people who want to feel can do that on their own board and stop to post their shit on the other boards. What do you think?

How often do complainers report, and how often do people report those who have not broken a rule?

0 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: 1363485711269.png]
Do people report the people they complain about before coming to this board to complain? And I have one other question, how often do people report others who have not broken a rule, on any board?

Still deleting on topic threads like Star Trek and anything else he doesnt like Says WAAA WAAA WAAA then points us to another board. Randomly putting in ban requests for no reason and generally being a fuckwhit. Could someone do something about this idiot?

so /lgbt/ is for "respectful" discussion on lgbt. how much more respectful can it be to post completely opinion-less statistics and facts straight from scientific journals with sources cited? there is no possible way to be any more neutral and respectful. there is an agenda being pushed on that board and moot needs to get rid of those janitors immediately.

ATTENTION MODS/JANITORS

3 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: urgent1.jpg]
To whom it may concern, Wrestlemania is less than two weeks away and /sp/ is usually flooded with threads during the event. Can we please have some mods on stand by to remove all these threads as they are not sports related and should be posted on the new sports board /asp/ If nobody is happy about this then we seriously need a Pro wrestling board.

Proxy detection on /f/

1 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ts.png]
Hey Moot, is it possible that /f/ is the only place where 4chan can't detect someone using an online proxy and ban them automatically? We have a user spamming zeitgeist flashes again and when flashes gets posted under an online proxy, the filename gets renamed to something with the letters "php" in it (I know because I tried this a few years back).

loli board

Now that moot granted boards to the lgbt, moot should bring back /loli/ Because why the fuck not? It's not like it's illegal and probably will be the next civil rights movement

Better moderation on /lgbt/

13 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: 1317778665951.jpg]
It's desperately needed. At this point, it's trolls trolling trolls, with some people from both sides of the fence joining in the fight that's being spurred on. It's fair to assume that this is being caused by /pol/, but even if it is, it's irrelevant. That's just the cause, and we need to treat the symptoms. Literally the only board guidelines are general ones, with an extra rule added; respectful discussion of the LGBT community. The transphobia on this board is -immense-. Even among the homosexuals and bisexuals that are there. I'm not saying that we need to ban anyone who disagrees, anyone who insults a trans person or anything like that; but at the very least, we desperately need moderators/janitors upholding the respectful discussion rule. Having a thread go from "What do you think of X" to "Trannies are rapist faggots" is absolutely terrible and unacceptable. They don't need to be supported, but they don't need to be viciously attacked either. I support discussion as to why people agree or disagree with the lifestyle, but this is leaps and bounds past respectful.

You realize that your SRS containment board doesn't work, don't you moot? They're here to invade the community, and you're just giving them a springboard. This seriously needs to stop.

If you make a serious thread and lots of people get angry at the subject why do you get banned for "trolling". Seems like its everyone elses fault for getting "trolled"

Medieval/Renaissance

Hey /moot/les, how are you babe I'd like to request a board for Medieval/Renaissance times. It would be nice to discuss the artwork, weaponry(involving Blacksmithing and such), horses, general castle/keep talk, amongst other things. I think /mid/ or whatever your highness would prefer, would be an incredible board and i have some, but very few, friends.... that would agree to having a /mid/ board around. Thank you for reading this, mootles. And also thank you to any other that stumble upon this post. If i missed a board these ideas would be relevant to, other than /b/, please direct me there in an instant.

Dear moot/mods would like to put forward my idea, can we not use the /r9k/ image code to force oc images on every board and with every post, not just op posts, then we might actually get some oc on here, instead of the same regurgitated shit we see every day, /q/ueers what do you think or am i alone thinking this may revive us, or ARE WE JUST A SECOND RATE REBBIT!!

hateboner/selfimportance general

Not sure if this is the right place to do so but as I understand the rules complaining directly on a board about same said board is frowned upon, so here goes; The regular accusations of 'viraling' on /v/ for any game that happens to get positive buzz and likely to sale 3 million+ to people who have never even heard of 4chan is absolutely pathetic. It is even more pathetic for commentary on a game that happens to be crowdfunded. If the /v/ audience where that important & influential you'd think they'd do what they do for any other website: lease banners. Publisher PR has associated themselves with less tasteful things than 4chan. Please, lurkers of /v/, keep such unprovable conspiracies on >>>/b/ and reserve /v/ for actual game discussion

I have a question for Moot. Do you literally want /lgbt/ to be safe for work, or do you just not want it to be a porn board? Because there is a ton of text content on there that I would never browse at work or school.

Personal Finance

I want a place to talk about personal finances and the main factors that influence it, namely jobs, degrees, income, investments, and general spending habits. A lot of threads tend to get derailed when someone brings up their college major and potential job outlook, and it'd be nice to keep it all in one place.
