http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/08/05/scientists-may-have-cracked-the-giant-siberian-crater-mystery-and-the-news-isnt-good/ So apparently some craters have been forming in the Siberian tundra. Preliminary investigation shows that it might be due to methane escaping from underground. This isn't good.

Are nanomachines that physically and directly destroy cancerous cells the only true cure for cancer? So why aren't we spending billions on nano machines?

Ebola coming to U.S. as Atlanta hospital preps for patients

http://www.cnn.com/2014/08/01/health/ebola-outbreak/ >Ebola coming to U.S. as Atlanta hospital preps for patients >Atlanta (CNN) -- The Ebola virus is coming to the United States for what's thought to be the first time, as two Americans return home after getting infected while helping others cope with the outbreak ravaging West Africa. >The first patient is expected to arrive in the United States on Saturday afternoon, U.S. officials said. The aircraft carrying that person will land at Georgia's Dobbins Air Reserve Base, then take off again for Liberia to get the second American infected with Ebola. >Both are expected to head to Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, according to Dr. Bruce Ribner, who oversees the special isolation unit where they will be treated. On Friday, he described the patients as "stable" and "safe to transport." So how bad is this exactly? What are the chances of it spreading to the rest of the country? Very low, I imagine.

You find yourself in a spaceship, having just crossed into the event horizon of a supermassive black hole. Do you shoot yourself rather than experience a possibly slow and torturous death?

Not homework...just a simple question.

1cc of solid CO2 = how many cc's of gaseous CO2? I rephrase it because it for some damn reason not that damn simple for me. To be honest i'm just trying to get from the solid state of a given amount of CO2 and then start using the ideal gas law to perform the rest of my calculations. but all my research is giving me shit in imperial and throwing back metric and vise versa. All I want is volume what 1 cc of solid is when it becomes a gas. Not worried about pressures at this point but for shits and giggles lets say at 1 atm. >very frustrated

Hey science people I have a few questions that I can't seem to figure out can you help me with these. is it impossible to be sure that what is sensed inside the head or outside it? If the sensory experience is translated in the cortex of the brain, how can it be known for sure what is out there? How can it be known with certainty that ones image of the world is the same as another's?

How do I into category theory? Nothing in the catalog that seems helpful. I'm graduating in a couple weeks with a degree in math and chemistry and other than some stuff I picked up in my abstract algebra course I know nothing of category theory. When do people normally encounter it? Pic absolutely unrelated

Why not to solve the economic crisis problem like this?: >as soon as there's a significant downfall in the aggregate economic output: >stimulate the sectors which suffered the greatest losses >stimulate the sectors closely connected to them so that the crises "wave" would get trapped and wouldn't spread in the economy What is this kind of interventionism called? Targeted Keynesian fiscal policy? And why not to implement such a policy? Has such crisis prevention mechanism ever been thought of?
