Could somebody who is in mensa or some sort of high IQ society tell me what they get in this and what they're actual IQ is? http://iqtest.dk Are mensa tests easier or harder?

Just how bullshit is the Monty Hall problem, /sci/? I mean, if a door with a goat is ALWAYS opened, doesn't that door simply become irrelevant? Do staticians just like to say switching doubles your odds because they like jerking off to stats?

Please explain the Kalman Filter thoroughly, but as if you were talking to someone who ended his math career in high school. Bonus points if you can expand on it's applications in the realm of missile acquisition in a realtime environment.

Having a bit of trouble finding information as to why Izod get higher values than Charpy impact tests. So why does this happen?

/sci/ basic physics here, if a light fitting is in equilibrium suspended by cables from a roof do any 2 mirrored positions have the same force acting on it just in a different direction? so if I figure out the horizontal component of a force left of a pivot it's the same force as the horizontal right of the pivot?

Is there any serious experiment supporting the Simulated Universe theory? That thing has been eating at me for the past few weeks, that we might be just someone's computer simulation, and them in turn another simulation. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Simulation_hypothesis

Hi /sci/ I have to do a presentation on next tuesday, and it has to be a genuine original presentation , the first guy did a creepy themed presentation about the apocalypse where he put creepy music , creepy cult clothes and creepy talk in a dark room , it worked. so I was thinking and it came to my mind to make a topic about "mind games" , "illusions" and stuff , and for the presentation to be a series of short videos demonstrating few theories about how our mind perceives the outside world differently depending on factors... for example : The Mcgurk effect : wiki/McGurk_effect any ideas on how to do the presentation or other impressive mind tricks I should bring ?

Chemfag here, wondering what /sci/ thinks of the idea of taking Complex Analysis with my only math classes on my transcript being Cal I & II. I plan on talking with the professor tomorrow, but I'm curious of other's opinions. When I heard that this class was offered, I jizzed my pants. I've never been excited or passionate about wanting to take a class so badly. I do masturbatory maths in my spare time, and I genuinely enjoy exploring math. Also, can /sci/ tell me anything that google couldn't tell me in regards to what I should expect?

should psychiatric treatment be based on science or on compassion? been going to a psychiatrist. Lots of "evidence show that this method helps" > mfw I go to a priest, she basically just shows compassion and I feel a lot better. inb4 "it only makes you feel better in the short term" and "a clinical cold eye is needed to make the patient see what should be changed". Been going to doctors for 4 years. Did everything they said. Didn't help.

Hey /sci/, anyone care to help a struggling maths student? I am absolutely shit with proofs. Prove that |a-b| = distance between a and b.

I don't know if this goes here or with /g/ but I'll try. I'm trying to create a sample table at work. I quickly made one up here to show you the idea. What I want to know is how do I create a formula to automatically generate the number of (apples) remaining. My problem is the position of the item in sheet 1 will not the same as it is in sheet to (e.g Sheet 1 tommytim is A4 where is Sheet 2 it is A2. I initially tried doing =SUM(B2-Sheet2!B2) in the apples remaining column however that only works if the item stays on the same row. How do I create a link between the item and and the number of the item so that as soon as I type it into the second sheet, it recognizes it and calculates the difference between items in and items out.

I need Your help /sci/

How many grams of ice at -22.7 C can be completely converted to liquid at 14.5 C if the available heat for this process is 4.97×10^3 KJ? for ice use a specific heat of 2.01 J/(g*C) and delta Hfus= 6.01kJ/mol Substance Specific heat delta H J/(g*C) (kJ/mol) water 4.18 44.0 ice 2.01 6.01 i have been stuck on this for like an hour now

So how does it feel knowing that all the money that could have been spent on space exploration, is going to be spent on paying for women's contraception and supporting blacks through increased welfare? This is what happens when you vote for social issues over science.

hi, i'm trying to teach myself this proof but there's this step that involves dividing the sum of two compound factors over the difference of two compound factors and i don't really know how to tackle it. basically, tan(A+B) = (sin A cos B + cos A sin B) / (cos A cos B ? sin A sin B) becomes tan(A+B) = [sin A/cos A + sin B/cos B] / [1 ? sin Asin B/cos Acos B] if someone could run me through the steps i'd be eternally grateful
