/sci/, I have a question for you. All of you know the metric (or line element, doesn't matter) of Minkowski space \mathrm{d} s^2 = - \mathrm{d} t^2 + \mathrm{d} \mathbf{x}^2\,, now my question is, where does the sign of \mathrm{d} t^2 exactly come from? I get that it's just how the stabiliser of the Lorentz group is defined, but I don't really see where it originates from, I mean physically. Can someone help? Picture unrelated

What do you make of this /sci/? http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2014/04/11/lab-grown-vaginas-successfully-implanted-in-girls-in-tissue-engineering-first/ Whats the hold up on stuff like this? Why aren't we growing organs for people will missing limbs or genitals for transpeople, etc, etc I feel like "ethics" are holding back the scientific progress related to growing limbs and such, stem cells, ips cells, etc etc I guess private funding is really what causes science to develop, but why aren't any private parties or organizations dumping money into this sort of thing?
