After one door is opened, the new odds are 50/50. This means there's no advantage to changing. Nothing will ever convince me otherwise.

Was Popper a total retard when he said that induction is a myth? Most scientific hypotheses are derived via induction. And to select which hypotheses are more credible, and deserve the status of a theory, one needs to use induction.

Why does Stewart's Calculus receive so much hate? The calculus book that I have to use in my courses is a norwegian shit book, and I therefore regularly use Stewart to actually understand the math. I just don't get all the hate.

California Water "Problem"

Why don't they just build a shitton of desalinization plants? It's not like we're going to run out of sea water any time soon. Also >build cities in the middle of literal deserts and steal water from other states for two centuries >get mad when water "suddenly" runs out Why are Californians so stupid?

ok /sci/, I need to write a simulation of the n-body problem in a programming language of my choice and I've gone with C++. I already know Java and enough of python but I need to make it computationally efficient, ergo C++... But the language itself is so huge it's killing me. Any suggestions of tutorials on computational physics or general ideas on how to move forward? Also I don't mind if this turns into a simulation general thread, I'd just like a bit of advice.

>tfw doing a shitty engineering degree that's neither theoretical enough or practical enough >being at a top 50 world uni >doing a maths, physics, or computer science degree Pick two or forever be a dumbshit. I'm man enough to admit it. Are you?

Hey /sci/, mind helping me with a math problem? AB:AC = 3:2 in the triangle ABC. Calculate all the angles, when angle B is half of angle C. I'm sure the answer is simple but I'm too stupid to figure it out.

Where can I find or get some knowledge on making an algorithm on retirement? Like having principal, and having that money rise while also factoring yearly or monthly payments, for a certain number of years, until retirement. I know that this one, Complex, doesn't work because it factors in all retirement money at once, I just need something for continuous interest while adding to the amount.

Looking for data on infectious diseases

Greetings /sci I am looking for pre 1980* data on infectious diseases (as polio, tuberculoses, pox, etc). I read some books that had charts on german and english cases with data from before the wars, but I was not able to find the sources. Online or paper sources welcome. *or even prior to that

Chaos Theory

Hey /sci/ never been able to fully wrap my head around the intricacies of Chaos Theory. Hoping yall can give me insight. Is it true? Is it relevant? What does it truly show us? Took a stab on /lit but must have been wrong board for it.

Is there any particular name for this kind of matrix? I've taken to calling it "that flippy matrix thing" (because multiplying a matrix by it flips the matrix over), but I was wondering if there was a non-Buffy-Speak name for it.
