Can someone explain the multiverse theory to me?

Guys, I still studying math trying to remember the basics but my progress is going slower than ever. After all these years away from school, I barely remember what to do. The worst part was remebering how to divide without using a calculator, but now with fractions, Iam getting buttfucked again...HARD!. If anyone can help me with this problem I appreciate. For some reason my results are like 2XX/7X and I have no idea of how reach such small numbers.

I come to you today /Sci/ because I have been slowly going insane in my home town. I live in a heavily religious area where most people are not very intelligent, and the average human is considered smart. Everyday people chat me up about either Pseudoscience or religious faith. I try to be respectful, and at times I even try to explain to them some of the better understood realities of our Universe. I don't expect to convince anyone of anything, but I hope to be able to at least get them to question their "Realities" a bit more. One of the biggest problems I deal with is that well established and accepted scientific theory is considered unreliable here. They are the type who say "It's just a theory." How can I deal with this other than moving? Is there a better way to communicate with them? Do any Anons have advice about what they do to cope with simpler people?

Can anyone explain this wizardry? How do you get from equation two to three? Why are there two plus signs and a negative sign in ? It hurts in the brain.

>undergraduate babies fighting over who's major (rofl) is better >99% of them have never done any real work and probably can't even feed themselves >math and physics posts are laughably simple problems >oh man this is so hard please help me do my homework mommy This board is an absolute riot, I think I need to spend more time on here.

copy edit in commuunity college

My wife wrote an essay for writing 121, printed it out and made corrections with pen. She was in a rush, so I typed out the essay for her, following her corrections. Is that considered cheating in college? I naturally made punctuation corrections as I typed because I'm really not going to leave the wrong type of "its" in her essay. Overall though I only did that two times for a three page essay. My questions are: 1) Is that considered cheating in college? 2) If so which part? 3) Is retyping her printed out essay considered cheating if I strictly type what she has written down? 4) What about making simple, obvious corrections to grammar? I also realize that there are much better alternatives to printing/editing/typing/reprinting cycle that my wife took.

Are there any bacteria out there that can process sulfur, and if so can any of them be cultivated alongside an algae like chlamydomonas reinhardtii? I want to try and make a coal waste biological filter by sequestering the emissions and channel them into a dense algae/bacteria tank to process most of the hazardous gases.

Black under a crown

I'm sorry if this isn't the right board, but advice seems a little tangential since this is already squared away to be treated, so, "go to a dentist" isn't what I'm looking for. About five years ago my wife got a crown on a tooth that was root canal'd, and a filling on an adjacent tooth. Part of that event saw the dentist hit the cap while drilling the adjacent tooth, and when it came time to fill said tooth, he bridged the gap and put filling in the the hole in the cap. I am told that the filling cannot adhere to the cap, so it was technically just a jutting piece of filling sticking out of one tooth and touching another. This never came up as a problem, until recently. While flossing, she ripped the filling out of that gap, the cap and part of it out of her extant tooth. So here's the mystery: Her gums are receding a little bit near the capped tooth, that has also been set to be cared for, but it is revealing a blackness under her cap. So my question: When they cap a tooth, do the remnants under the cap just rot and turn black, but we never notice because the gums cover it? It's not some tooth-implant thing, it looks kind of like that, this was just a cap over a root canal'd tooth. Is her blackened capped tooth normal or indicative of something else? The tooth didn't sit there rotting for the last five years, unseen by her or I? I want to know because the appointment she has is for the damaged filling and repairing or re-doing the cap, so I want to know what might have happened and how what that might be might affect what can or will be done to her. I'm sorry if this is the wrong board, I really am. Picture is not of her, it was a Google image search, but seems to be what she's got going on.

Is biology the weakest science? > at most only explains relationships while subjects such as chemistry and physics explain the universe at an intrinsic level Im seriously debating this in my head because i was thinking about pursuing a biochemistry major

What is in the space between a nucleus of an atom and its electrons? If its "nothing"(i dont see how this could be possible) then there shouldnt some kind of holes in everything we see?

Had a weird dream, I was sitting on new horizions, as it approached Pluto, a wormhole opened up and it fell into the wormhole, at the end of which I saw this weird shape, it was 3 dimensional of course, does anyone know what it is. > pic related I heard that we can only dream about what we saw, I am not sure how my subconscious got hold of it, that symbol is bugging me.

Here's an idea. Post problems you've encountered in your STEM courses, whether they be old homework, exam, or practice problems, and others attempt to solve them. No, this isn't a homework thread, more like a dickwaving thread, so it fits perfectly on /sci/.

So I do enjoy to venture down metaphorical the rabbit's hole of Wikipedia, and get lost in it for a few hours clicking on arbitrary links to other articles the peak my interest, and learning about random different stuffs and wish to do that now. What articles has /Sci/ found interesting in the past and could recommend?
