When will we ever have Elysium in real life? Would it be possible or desirable to live on a giant space station 36,000 kilometers up in Geosync orbit? I know I would love to visit but I would not qualify as a citizen. Unless I joined the mobile infantry... Enlistment guarantees citizenship.

If my engineering lecturers at university are so smart, and I believe that they are, and their main job is engineering research, how do they get any cutting edge research done if they're each teaching one or more classes a term, supervising various student projects, on committees of all sorts, marking assignments, creating exams etc. Also I'm pretty sure they all work 9 to 5:30 Monday to Friday only.

What is Fibonacci sequence in Nature? and whats the purpose to it? I'm asking to understand, so pretend I'm a 12 year old.

Ok sci answer me this. Just how how can an ordinary person really be so sure that the earth is NOT flat? I know there is "evidence" like pictures from NASA showing the earth being round and all that, but isn't that an appeal to authority fallacy if we just believe everything what NASA shows us? Its not like NASA are ever going to give a flat earth believer a free ride on the ISS to see the earth "really is round" are they? So how do we know that NASA is not forging images of the earth? How do we know that scientists are not simply manipulating their equations to just fit the data that we "live on a round earth"?

"Hardest" Maths Quiz

Post your major and your score on this "hard" math test. Finance I fucked up the parametric and the arc length one, so 12/15 for me.

Studying Queuing Theory and finding it kind of interesting. Has anyone else touched the subject?

Assuming we figure out how to manipulate the time that is passing for an object, would it be possible to speed up time for a proton, slowing it's progress through space? Could we potentially freeze a proton in space, but not time? Oh, and I don't want any "But time doesn't pass for protons, hurr durr". You're right, it doesn't, but that's because it travels through space at the speed of light. Thereby stopping time for it. If we did the reverse, and sped up time for the proton, would it also slow it down? Pic unrelated BTW.

The event will be broadcast live on NASA Television and the agency's website. A brief question-and-answer session will take place during the event with reporters on site and by phone. Is a degree in Aerospace engineering worth it (specifically aeronautical and astronautical). How is the job market? Is the job entertaining enough but not too hard where it is enjoyable?

Why aren't you studying economics yet?

Grad-level economics is the true master race. >more rigorous than most STEM fields, everything is proved and built analytically starting from set theory >requires more advanced maths than engineering >great employment opportunities in private sector (consulting, high finance, etc) >great academic salaries, starting assistant professors make 90k compared to half that for STEM profs >can research what you want instead of slaving away for a PI/adviser >freedom to do theoretical or empirical work >colleagues are actual fun and decent people instead of self-hating STEM and humanitard people

What's going on computationally when a word is 'on the tip of your tongue'? My guess is something like: >brain checks memory address where it expects word >data is checked for fitting into your sentence >inconsistency flagged >brain tries to repair data >if it doesn't work, tries to find an alternate path to correct word//searches nearby memory addresses for word Any other ideas?

BENGALURU: After toiling on it for nearly half his life, 80-year-old Paramahamsa Tewari finally received validation for his space generator - a super high-efficiency machine that produces power from vacuum. A prototype of the machine tested by Kirloskar ElectricBSE exhibited 165% efficiency, said Murlidhar Rao, former director of Karnataka Power Corporation (KPCL), assisting Tewari.Through an agreement signed earlier, the Kirloskar group company can now enter into a contract . http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/46832793.cms?utm_source=contentofinterest&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=cppst
