Careers/Best Degree thread

I wonder, what does /sci/ think of pic related? Over time, I've increasingly noticed that this board is full of high schoolers and people who genuinely believes the 300k starting meme and dismiss engineering immediately as cock sucking, without even thinking of how good it actually is as a degree for someone who wants a good paying job. Anyway, as a maths undergrad, I'm most interested how highly this picture rates engineering. /biz/ gives me the impression that it's over saturated, and therefore your probability of being employed, even with the appropriate degree is very low (...and probably even lower with a slightly different degree, like I have no idea why anyone would hire me for an engineering job rather than an engineer, although I do understand the case for employing non-finance people for finance). So /sci/, thoughts?

>Be me in October 1st >Live in California >Apply to CP SLO, CP Pomona, SDSU, and CSU Long Beach for Computer Engineering major >CP SLo is a long shot school >be 27 years old and not sure if I should bother living in dorms >Have 65 credits with a 3.66 GPA >Will have over 75 credits by end of spring semester >Will only have Physics I completed by end of spring if I pass the class Chances of getting accepted to either of these schools? /adv/ is garbage for college discussion and everyone here seems to have went through the process or are planning on going through the process.

Any famous engineer or scientist ever failed a class in college? I am studying EE and i can't stand going to some classes like "Law and ethics" , "economics", "sustainability" and so on. I also can't stand spending my time - inb4 people telling me that i am browsing 4chan - studying some other subjects that are important to EE but not of my interest, like power transmission. I am doing really well so far but is mostly because i have an immense fear of failure. I feel that if i do bad in one exam is because i am not good enough. Anyone here knows of a famous engineer or scientist who didn't give a fuck and just did what he actually wanted, meaning that he failed some classes and didn't care and also excelled in the things he was interest in? All my teachers are extremely dedicated in everything they do and are always looking with arrogance the students that get bad grades, and i never read anyone who fitted my description earlier.

Nerf Gun Dart Board Probability

A dart board with radius R. Bullseye has radius r. Nerf Dart suction cup has radius a. Due to the poor accuracy of a nerf gun, darts are randomly shot in the direction of the board until one sticks to the board. What is the probability that the suction cup hit the bullseye? Clarify. A hit on the board means the entire suction cup has to make contact. For a bullseye however, the suction cup merely has to touch the bullseye.

How does one even go to MIT? I'm at a top 30 undergrad institution and im planning on going into their aeroastro masters program. I'm in 2nd year. What can I start doing now/do before I grad other than get good grades to ensure I have a good shot at getting into MIT? The people that I have seen that were accepted and wrote detailed information about themselves were nuts (Intern at major defense corps, nasa internships, publications, mit undergrads etc) Space general thread too, because the jannies will have an asthma attack if we don't talk about popsci

Dark Energy/Matter

The fact that the universe is held together by gravity. That it does not have enough mass for. There isn't even enough dark matter to account for everything holding together. The universe is also expanding in all directions from all points at the same time from Dark Energy. These existence of these Dark elements is proof that we are living in a faulty simulation.

Hello, I have no idea if it is the right place to ask this... I have been told a few yearsago I Have a brugada syndrom... And I wanted to know if any of you knows exactly what happens ( and eventually how it might feel too ) when you experience sudden adult death syndrome.. I am willing to let it happen entirely for some reason, but I'd like to know what to expect if it is possible. ( I have no device such as a pacemaker... ) Thank you in advance...

What abstract concept in math or science do you find absolutely beautiful? Have you ever viewed something in STEM fields as perfectly beautiful? Maybe an Algorithms, programming language syntax, or something else?

Here's a summary of what Robert Lanza's theory is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aXZOhqbQsOw Try not to judge the video by its title, the ideas don't sound like they're fable. I want to know what you guys think about it. Do you believe it's utter shit or the ideas are valid and if they are, to what extent are they plausible?
