So, unlike transistors, which can be "p-type" or "n-type," vacuum tubes can only be "n-type" (with emphasis on the quotes) since it's pretty much impossible to get protons to be emitted from a metal, whereas electrons will fly off pretty easily. Research into vacuum tube technology effectively ground to a halt sometime in the 70s, but are there any conceivable materials in light of the last 40 years of materials and chemistry research that might allow construction of a "p-type" vacuum tube?

Why do fractions exist at all.. It seems pointless and confusing. It's much easier for me to think of 1/12 as just 0.1 in a 12 digit notation. multiply 1/12 by 4/12.. ok 0.1 x 0.4 in 12 digit notation. no need for learning stupid tricks like multiplying by the reciprocal etc that just avoid explaining the actual concept. Am I missing something / am I autistic?

/sci/ state of the board thread

A majority of the board is a student circle jerk talking about how cool they are for being students, but they hate students who are in different majors, so we need ten threads or so at all times for students of different majors so they can jerk each other off about how great their major is and how everyone else sucks. The next largest group would be stupid questions, which can be kind of fun some times, but most of the time there's one or two posts then the thread sits until it's deleted. Then we have math threads. I don't participate in the math threads, but they seem like they know what they are doing. Three popsci hate threads also need to be active at all times because hating on popsci is popular. The two smallest groups would be shit posts and intelligent discussion. Although it's easy to mistake stupid questions for shit posts, I feel like actual shit post OPs don't happen very often. Shit posts in threads are common.

When electricity passes through a resistor, some of it is dissapated as heat. How much heat does one watt of electricity produce? Pic unrelated

new bread If light propagates at a constant speed from all frames of reference, how does its frequency change for an observer moving to or from a source at a certain velocity?

What are some methods that actually work to improve one's study habits? Sure I could Google, but maybe you guys have something actually backed up by non-meme studies

Why do the idiots of 4chan place so much importance on genetics over all other aspects that influence a person's life? Every other thread on /r9k/, /sci/, /pol/, /fit/ is all about genetics. Genetics is not destiny

So I might have accidentally destroyed some cell lines and other assorted samples that the researchers in the lab I work in have used for apparently quite a while. It caused quite a shitstorm and I'm told that the university is considering "legal action" against me. They can't do that, right? I'm just an undergraduate student, so mistakes should be expected. Any help?

>Gödel's incompleteness theorems >Axioms aren't proven, just assumed as "evident" Math is complete shit. Why do you autists want to study such a shit field?

Sup guys, So i'm a senior in highschool and i've been wanting to study human biology for awhile and i've always wanted to find ways to improve it, like making stronger bones, or improving the immune system, longer lifespans, and regenerating limbs and organs. I want to be able to study all of this but i have no clue where to even begin. Any suggestions on where to begin or what field to go into?

Hey faggots! You use to denigrate people who decide to graduate in CS instead of Math. > "CS is a meme degree" > "kek too easy" But, you know what? The founder and CEO of Facebook, a billionaire company, is Mark Zuckerberg. Who was exactly studying Computer Science at Harvard.

Is getting a biology degree just entirely memorization? I mean they might have to know how to do log/exponent questions for answering questions about population, but I mean couldn't someone with an photographic memory just read a biology textbook to ace a biology exam? Whos more of a scientists? An engineer or a biologist?
