What are your thoughts on antidepressants, in particular SSRIs and SARIs? Little is known about the mechanisms behind depression and antidepressants. One theory I have heard is that depression is the result of lacking synaptogenesis and neurogenesis, for example due to stress or dissatisfaction but also obviously genetic and that SSRIs promote both. However, there is also endless controversity surrounding antidepressants, some even claiming that they permanently damage your brain. Any medfags here who know more about this?

My Calc class uses Stewart. Should continue using apostol and just use stewart to do the problem sets or should I just switch over to stewart?

They say before the big bang the universe was extremely small, maybe the size of a marble. But how is it supposed to have a size when space doesn't exist? Small? Small compared to what - when there isn't anything? And where is this small ball of concentrated matter and energy located when space doesn't exist? It has to be somewhere?

I'm a rich guy. My genes are pretty decent, average joe really. My wife is a looker but her side of the family is short. I'd like a son, and I'd like him to be tall enough to be a competitive basketball player and to get the ladies. Is there any way I can pick and choose a sperm/egg combination that will guarantee these criteria? Is it legal in the US? I have the money, and the wife is on board. Between me and my wife is only about 11 feet. I'd love for my son to be at least 6'. I always loved basketball but I was never good enough to overcome being sub 6'.

The true value of infinity

Infinity = 0. You can not prove me wrong. If I ask you to show me 3 you can take out three crayons and line them up to demonstrate. You can do the same with any other number BUT if I asked you to show me infinity you wouldn't be able to show me by lining up your crayons. The same goes for 0. Therefore they are equal

Hey /sci/ what do you think was the academic load in the European Universities during the mid XVIII century? Most of the important math was already invented, the engineering courses must not be really different from today right?
