Science of charm

What is psychology/sociology/neuroscience? behind Bernie Sanders' charm? He is 150 years old, but he is absolutely adored by youth and in fact has 99.9975% of their votes (numbers may be slightly incorrect, but basically are true). He is very liked and causes you to experience the subjective feelings of respect, happieness, admiration, trust and even love towards him.
Obviously, there's the fact that he's genuine - in a sense that he uses his personality and molds it as opposed to creating an artificial persona like Hillary does. He creates a perception of your every guy - every old man, in fact; the underdog.
That much is clear. But it's far from enough to explain his unique and very powerful charm.
What is the mechanism at work here?
