Dear Sci, I've been scheduled to teach a class in basic O-chem this Friday and I've not touched O-chem in a few years now, I do computational chemistry and these two example questions completely stumped me. Lend a fellow scifag a hand in assigning the IUPAC name to these two molecules please.

It's application season, let's have a grad school thread. Discuss research, practical questions relating to applications, funding, etc., or just vent.

Study Habits

What are some good /sci/ approved study habits/practices? I breezed through high school and am breezing through my first semester of college, but I know it will get more difficult. So what do you do to prepare for those really challenging exams to ensure that you will get an A?

Why are brainlets allowed to study in universities? They are nothing but trouble. They degrade the value of your degree and poison the entire field by their existence.

All Scientists must use SQUAT toilets or you are not a scientist.

All scientists and enlightened humans must squat to shit. Scientifically studied the benefits are: - Less time to shit - Cleaner shits with less required TP - Healthier for you and avoids many negative health effects of the strain Both the time needed for sensation of satisfactory bowel emptying and the degree of subjectively assessed straining in the squatting position were reduced sharply in all volunteers compared with both sitting positions (P < 0.0001). In conclusion, the present study confirmed that sensation of satisfactory bowel emptying in sitting defecation posture necessitates excessive expulsive effort compared to the squatting posture. http://link.springer.com/article/10.1023%2FA%3A1024180319005 Sit Shitters = low IQ monkeys wasting time, messier, and higher chance of hemorrhoids and other problems. Defend your continued use of sit toilets if you want but know you can not be someone who believes in science if you sit to shit.

Cal 2

Anybody here took Cal 2? Got a midterm on Thursday covering all the integration techniques, integration by parts, trig substitution etc., and until now I've barely opened the book. Is it actually possible to learn this shit in the next 5 days or should I pretty much just give up? I did pretty well in Cal 1. I'm hoping if you've taken Cal 2, you know how long it takes to master this shit.

Why do some people mature earlier than their peers, mentally speaking?

Is IQ related to physical traits, do high IQ people have particular faces? Why do some people hate math in academia? In my country (France), we have several engineer schools called 'Grandes Ecoles', such as Centrale, Polytechnique, or even Ponts & Chaussées. Do you have any knowledge about them, what do you think about their level? Do you think education has a direct link with how much a pupil is interested in school and schoolwork? Is work capacity inherited, or learned? Is the MIT as prestigious as it's made out to be? I'm really curious /sci/, please answer these.

Prove me wrong that 97% of climate change scientists are not in fact suffering from the bandwagon effect, peer pressure and group think in order to push this global warming meme.
