Anyone else here AMS at Stony Brook?

### End of Semester

Another one of these. Discuss how the semester went, post grades, ask and give advice for the new one.

### Help me with counting anons

How many different 5 digit numbers can be formed using 1,3,4,6,7,8,9 If the 7 and 4 are used at least once. Here is what I think first possibility is 4 and 7 appear once so I think its P(5,2)*5^3,and secondly 4 and 7 can appear twice in the number so same logic P(5,4)*5. So the final count should be P(5,2)*5^3+P(5,4)*5 Did I get that right?
a gang of integrals slap your gfs ass at the club. what do?
How do we reverse the effects of global warming? Apparently cutting CO2 emissions is not enough.
in the middle of a c++ test can /sci/ solve these for me? i'm failing uni btw

### Why are European universities so terrible?

In almost every ranking, universities in continental Europe lag far behind those in the United States and United Kingdom. Pic related. Why is this? Lack of funding? Bad curriculum? No research? European high schools are better than American ones, so why does this flip when it comes to college?
I doubt any of you mathfags will be able to solve pic related
Right Anons I'm doing an Meng in Civil Engineering and still have not a fucking clue what i can do with this degree. Basically i just want to be rich and travel around the world. Is it possible with this degree? Planning on getting Charted status and a phd probs. Mfw you don't even know what you're doing with your life
Will electric motors ever be able to generate enough force to replace fossil fuels in areas like airlines and cargo ships? What's the most promising source of energy when we inevitably run out of oil?

### What controls torso length? (Racethread)

Specifically with respect to race, as whites have longer torsos than blacks, and Asians have equal/longer torsos to whites. I've seen 5'8" Asian guys sit down and be as tall as 6'2" whites. I've seen 6'2" Asians sit down and tower over white in the area. The usual answer I've seen is something to do with Allen's rule, because long legs dissipate heat, and whites and Asians are supposedly evolved for colder climates. However, a long torso is also bad for heat retention. A wide, thick short torso would be ideal for it, along with short, thick legs. However, most whites and Asian people have long thin torsos and short thin legs, so I don't think it has much to do with heat transfer. Genetically oriented answers would be appreciated. And if it wasn't obvious, "Asians" refers to northeast Asians, and not Turks/Russians/Indians/Iranians.

### Hobbies in general

Hey /sci/! Sorry, I never come here. I was wondering: what hobbies involve math? Algebra, to be more precise (adapting cooking recipes doesn't count tho).
Will any actual sane person marry a robot in the future? Why?/Why not? When /sci/ is guessing that if that ever happens will happen? What is then going to happen to the social position of the woman? Imagine 1000+ years in the future robots are indistinguisable from the real thing. Imagine that they have even artificial DNA and genes that match their appearance and their personality that they were programmed with. What stops then a sane person being a robosexual, having a real relationship with a robot, loving it, spending the life with it, marrying it, and have descedants? If /sci/anon lived at that time would he at least partially be robosexual? Would a /sci/anon that was single even consider loving, marrying, having kids... etc with a robot? Pic related. A clown that identifies herself as "robosexual". Sauce: http: //www.3ders.org//articles/20161223-i-do-robot-woman-to-marry-3d-printed-robot-she-designed.html
Ok if pic related is a "hole" in spacetime. What would the opposite look like?
>repeat what you read from actual scientists' books >steal the credit >scientist
Do you think Space Elevators will ever become a reality? Is the science just not there? Are they too tempting a target for terrorism?
>when someone else has a completely different intuitive conception of a scientific or mathematical concept than you do Why can't everyone think like me? The way I think is the best. The way other people think is stupid and incorrect in subtle ways.
