### /sqt/ - Stupid Question Thread: Homotopy Edition

Previous thread: >>8591198 Post all your stupid questions that don't deserve their own thread here. I'm trying to find two compact connected surfaces that are not homotopy equivalent but become homotopy equivalent after removing one point from each. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Surface_(topology)#Classification_of_closed_surfaces says there's only the homeomorphism classes of the sphere, the connected sum of g-tori and connected sums of real projective planes A sphere minus a point is homotopic to a point and a torus minus a point is homotopic to a figure eight, but what does a real projective plane minus a point look like?
What's the trick for perfectly visualizing electromagnetism in all situations?

I have nine months to do it, can you help me, 4 chan?

### Molecular machines

Can anyone here explain to me the concept of molecular machines, and what potential research of it could lead to? I have been trying to read it and cannot tell if it falls under either chemistry or biochemistry/biotech can any anons here inb4 newfag

### Philosophy is bullshit

in my experience there are three types of people with regards to understanding philosphy. 1) Average joe, never thinks about anything, thinks that philosophy is a waste of time. 2) Above average intelligence, loves intellectualism, thinks philosophy is good because it has a historical status of being intellectual. 3) Actually smart, naturally engages in philosophical thinking, and acknowledges that it is completely valueless, unprovable, time-consuming mental masturbation. Is this right?

If Asians are more intelligent on average than whites, how come up until the 20th century they were technologically underdeveloped? Shouldn't they have been on top all along instead of having to catch up?

### New prosthesis

Has anyone followed the prosthesis field? The last five years gives me the impression that we are getting closer to artificial limbs that could be better than the originals. 3D-printing scene has produced some cheap and aesthetically pieces. We have materials that are are light, yet strong and a prototype of an artificial skin that can deliver pressure sensation. We have the materials to create high-end limb prosthesis, but if I understood relaying and sending signals to the human body is the current bottleneck. Does /sci/ have people interested in or involved in prosthesis?
"I can't say I'm outraged. Other people do worse. Of course, there are many mathematicians who are more or less honest. But almost all of them are conformists. They are more or less honest, but they tolerate those who are not honest."He has also said that "It is not people who break ethical standards who are regarded as aliens. It is people like me who are isolated."[
