Why do governments put fluoride into the water supply if we get enough fluoride from toothpaste? Is it necessary? Also, how are they complete sure it's safe? Scientists have been wrong before (saying sodium and fats are bad for you). Why should we be forced to drink this stuff when most other advanced nations DON'T put fluoride into their water supply?

http://www.slate.com/blogs/xx_factor/2014/12/09/gender_bias_in_student_evaluations_professors_of_online_courses_who_present.html I know this is wrong, but can someone with more experience in this field explain why? A friend of mine is convinced that it's all true and correct.

Ayy medifags explain this here >Exercise is good because it requires your heart to work hard which keeps it strong >Drinking is bad because it dilutes the blood, requiring your heart to work hard, which hurts it Sounds like a bunch of liberal media crap to me. Explain this so I can do a better job of understanding it over here.

Python library with fast modpow

I'm trying to find cube roots of very large numbers (millions of binary digits), modulo pseudo-mersenne prime in python. Native python number type is completely useless. pygmp2 is better but still slow. Apparently GMP can't exploit mersenne/solinas prime modulus for fast reductions and sticks with montgomery/berret (which is several magnitudes slower) for relatively sane-sized numbers. For larger moduli (>2^10000 or so) it attempts FFT Schonhage-Strassen, which doesn't work very well either (that one is best suited only for general m). Does anon know of any library which can do fast modpow() reduction when m is of special fast-reduction-friendly form - for example 2**414032-5 (to get idea of scale, this number is roughly 100k decimal digits and occupies 50kb in memory).

Trying to figure out a statistics problem. I don't want it done for me, but god knows I'm stuck. A push in the right direction or help understanding what the question is asking? a. What is the sampling distribution of the mean? I have the full question if needed. Explain as if I am a autistic moron (which I am). Any help would be appreciated.

i like dicking around with math problems, will i like dicking around with circuit boards?

any EEs here want to share their insight? i'm looking at a junior college program with the intent to continue my education further down the road and i can't tell if i -should just do more math since i like math -spend my financial aid money on EE since i'll probably end up there anyway and at least i'll be employed at the end of four years i can't make decisions on my own HELP

If you bring two magnets with the same polarity together does the force at the center of interaction travel faster than the speed of light?
