Techniques for mental Speed/Distance/Time calculations

11 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: speed.jpg]
Hi /sci/, This is embarassing but as a compsci post grad I have been recently stumped at doing a verbal Speed Distance Time calculation test for the US Army. I was wondering if there is any techniques for figuring out the answer easily and effectively. For example: What speed covers 11 miles in 3 hours and 40 mins? How would you break this problem down in your head. Many thanks!

can some one explain why Li2O into water does not make an acid eg Li2O + H20 --> 2LIOH + 2H + O2 In no it is supposed to be basic but does that mean that the oh Drops right of the LI agian??? also why does he O not rip H's of H20 to give more OH and then combine with the 2H made by LI riping of the OH from H20 and thus being ultimately neutral as the H2 and 2OH combine back to water????

quick questions, Would treating my jeans or denim fabrics with amylase make it softer or harder. I know for fact what amylase does, it breaks down starch into sugar monomers... but i don't know what result that would produce in denim....

Going insane (please help)

Been working on this for days, feeling more incompetent than I've ever felt before. Can someone, anyone please explain pointers and calls to pointers to me in a way that isn't verbose and confusing? Seriously, I've been spending extra time outside of class in the lab reading up on tutorials, writing practice programs and working. stringsTools.cpp: http://codepad.org/yk6ocbim stringsTools.h: http://codepad.org/VatNGgBi stringsMain.cpp: http://codepad.org/fRsXuilN Write a program that processes string information. Write the functions shown below All strings MUST be implemented by using arrays of characters. Do not use the string class in c++. You may use array notation when using the array of pointers. The functions must be prototyped above the main (). The program source code shall be written in C. The code should have comments.

How does /sci/ feel when a pop-sci facebook page uses the credibility of science just to post pleb-level BS that isn't even true. ITT: >string-theory is an evidenced fact >0.99999.... =/= 1 is an evidenced fact

Hello /sci/. I'll be honest with you: This is the first time I'm visiting your board. I want to ask you something: I wanted to study computer science for research and I asked someplace else about how can computer science influences our lives. All I got was "hurr durr code an app and influence the world because people will buy your app" kind of replies. Really? Is computer science now "code stuff"? What happened? Am I mislead? I just want to dedicate my life to a "larger than me" goal. Is Computer Science really swallow or are the people who I asked idiots?

If both these rods are fixed in the center and face each other as they do in the picture how will they move? Are they going to stay the same, go up, down? Will they end up in a fixed position?

From what I've seen and heard physicists are extremely condescending. I realize they probably get ideas like "what if our eyes are like black holes" from highschool kids every now and then, but lets say I've read several advanced books on physics and understood them quite well. I then propose a radical yet plausible hypothesis. Would physicists even consider it? I know that a terrible hypothesis from a prestigious university would get more inherent credence but just how rational/retarded are physicists on average? An example of this is the Vera Rubin case where a women proposed dark matter and she was arbitrarily laughed at and called wrong.

Apox Ladder Theory

23 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: image.jpg]
Man creates a program inside is a code strand which evolves periodically The code manifests into a universe of it's own artificial creatures and lifeforms. Eventually the code reaches an intelligent position to where it questions its existence. The question is do we deny that artificial being as a lifeform? Or do we place ourselves in the same position in this universe. Adding to this if we created this program what's to stop it from creating a program inside of it's own and down the ladder after all it's already using what is all around, "Code" and what if we truly are the coding of a higher program which would prove both multiverses as one massive Omniverse. That being said there would be a creator to our program. My hypothesis is; If we created a program and watched it grow we could find a way to drag code from inside this program out into our own program's existence this is because we both use the same coding. Even more so at the exact moment we watched and learned how the program we created pulled from it's lower program our program would end and we would climb the ladder. This is because above us in our creator's program they were looking to us to find the same question's answer. Who was the first creator of the program and what unimaginable things do they know? The question is how do we meet our "creator" Program takes the place of universe Please converse and tell me your thoughts on it all
