Techniques for mental Speed/Distance/Time calculations

11 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: speed.jpg]
Hi /sci/, This is embarassing but as a compsci post grad I have been recently stumped at doing a verbal Speed Distance Time calculation test for the US Army. I was wondering if there is any techniques for figuring out the answer easily and effectively. For example: What speed covers 11 miles in 3 hours and 40 mins? How would you break this problem down in your head. Many thanks!

Self teaching quantum physics?

Where'd be a good place to start learning about quantum physics? Any good, well-reputed beginner's guides out there? I know nothing technical about physics as it stands so it really would have to start from the beginning. Casual reader about such theories as Everett's many-worlds interpretation. I find that one pretty fascinating. It'd be cool to know a bit more about the scientific side of that sort of thing. Like I said, more or less learning from scratch. Any and all resources will be welcomed. Thanks in advance!

alright /sci/ I have 216 of these 5mm edge little (pretty weakly) magnetic cubes, and I was wondering: If I arranged them into a square made of 2*2 rods ( side length 13, have to leave 2 cubes out), and turn it into a transformer, what shape will the cubes take? I'm thinking they're either a) going to stick in their current shape with more force b) going to "slide" to find a clearer path c) going to kinda flip out, pull apart in places so the attachment is along the edges of the cubes instead of the flat surfaces d) going to try and do c), end up with a reduction in flux so the magnets fall together again, and repeat, making buzzing noise

What is voltage? I feel like I've never found an explanation of it that I've really understood. I don't care for the hydraulic analogy as I feel it leaves some important things out. So what is voltage? Why does it matter? (ie. Why do we express electric things in terms of voltage as opposed to current, what's the significance of the term?) What's going on say when I overclock a computer component form 0.9V to 1.2V, is there more current? Is there more resistance? More charge? What's going on at an atomic level? Can voltage be measured at a single point or does it always have to be relative to some other point? If so is there a standard for picking a point to measure the voltage relative to?

hello, /sci/.. So in my undergraduate school, I never really went over much of the hyperbolic functions, or even dived deep into complex numbers. Since upper-level math classes don't really have good solution manuals, I am a bitch and use cramster (even though it is now called chegg, and fuck that shit). Anyway, I am having trouble going from the step before the red circle, to the red circle. Obviously, the denominator inside the parenthesis are a sum of a perfect square, but how exactly does it come up with 2in? Upon finding the complex fourier series of cosh(ax), the same step is roughly applied, but instead the numerator is 2a. Basically, how does the operation inside the parenthesis before the circled 2i get performed to achieve 2i?

amphetamine base to amphetamine sulfate in nl they sell amphetamine base latly. (they call it amphetamine-oil type "a"). does someone here knows how to make amphetamine sulfate out if it? as far i know they mix the "a-oil" with methanol and sulfuric acid to get the sulfate. can anybody here put some more light into it?
