Okay, I'm a senior Biology major who needs to take this Physics II course to graduate, but made the mistake of not showing up for like 2 weeks of class. I have here angles of minimum deviation for different wavelengths (colors) of light after they passed through an equilateral prism. I need to derive this equation: n=(sin[{A+D'}/2]) / (sin A/2) I also need to figure out how to calculate the speed of light in the prism for each spectrum line calculated as 'n'. Is anyone here familiar with this? If you can't give me equations please at least try to explain this to me. Labs due tomorrow... Wat do?

/sci/bros I've applied to 3 engineering programs: >Electrical Engineering with emphasis on Telecommunication >BSc in Industrial Engineering - International Business Engineering >Bachelor in Computer Science and Engineering All in Sweden. I can link directly to the syllabus'es if interest accumulates. I need your experience-backed advice on which one to pick. Since I already hold a B.Sc. in International Relations, I'm fed up garling with theory and spitting it on paper. I'm now looking forward to working with my hands in a field that factually matters.

hello guys, I'm posting today asking only for advice. i spent most of middle and high school not trying as hard as i should have. i understood most of the concepts taught with only a little practice and in my ignorance thought that i did not need to do too much homework because my test scores were still good. all the time teachers talk up the need to do well on tests but inadequately weight them on the grading scale. stupidly i did not take SAT or do college applications because of combined stress from my high school girlfriend cutting off contact, bad money situation, lack of recognition from the JROTC program i was in, and total mismanagement of college applications and etc. fast forward to graduation, and i finish with a 2.3 gpa and advanced placement on every state test. i go to community college only getting 1 class i applied for, but i did get a 4.0 from it. one empty promise later i owe for the one class and my education freezes there. fast forward to now, i've been living the mildly depressed NEET life for about a year. i feel frustrated with my past decisions. i feel like i have enough aptitude and intelligence to be more than i am now. i want to grow, i've had enough of my own glass ceiling. can anybody give me advice to get out of this rut? tl;dr i want to improve my almost non-existant education beyond highschool. but where can a broke, frustrated, newly motivated above average person get more know-hows? pic minimally related

A Simple Math Challenge

There is a proper definition for a circle that is found in most calculus books. Without googling or looking it up in your book, define a circle without using the equation/formula of a circle or any facts about any other geometrical shapes ("points" are allowed.) Your definition must exactly define a circle and must not be applicable to any other shape.

Animal Behavior

Any animal behavioralists here? Me and my friend from work want to teach monkeys to ride dogs and joust one another like knights used to do. We figure we can start a league and hold tournaments and charge admission. It should be a cash cow, especially here in redneck Virginia. I want to know how hard it would be to train the monkeys. Which would be the best kind of monkey to train? Do you think PETA would give us any shit? It really wouldn't be any meaner to the animals than a rodeo or circus. I'll probably check with /k/ for tips on authentic jousting weapons. tl;dr how hard is it to train monkeys?

How does /sci/ feel about quantum evolution? I was reading a book about a year ago that talked about it like this: Everything is a quantum modifier, the reason evolution happened the way it did is because amino acids chaining together to make single celled organisms had a quantum modifier higher than not chaining together; and so on until you get to Homo Sapiens. Well, hello /sci/... I have a favor to ask of you. Could somebody help me out on the core concept of this? I'm just having trouble grasping the idea. A local hardware store sells stick-on letters, but the letters are not all the same price. Suppose you go to the store to buy all the letters for the number 12 (T-W-E-L-V-E). You know that a friend of yours bought 1 (O-N-E) and was charged $2. Another bought 2 (T-W-O) and paid $3. A third bought 11 (E-L-E-V-E-N) and paid $5. So, how much it will cost to buy 12?

I am in need of some serious help /sci/. I am working on a java program for a computer science course, and I'm completely stuck. I was doing fairly well in this class up until recently. My teacher hasn't given us sufficient examples to do this and the last assignment (which I pulled out of my ass). We just started on different methods. Basically what I have to do is script a program that will validate a password, which is input by the user. The program needs to ask to confirm the password again after entry. Then needs to check to make sure; 1.) There are at least 8 figures in the password 2.) There is at least one upper case and one lower case letter 3.) There is at least one digit. If the password re-entry doesn't match, or the rules aren't met, then it needs to prompt the user again. The whole thing has to make use of a method or methods other than the main (of course) to validate the rules are met. Pic is what I have thus far. I have it to where it checks for the correct length of the password. I can not figure out how to check for upper or lower case letters, and check for digits. Any assistance would be accepted.

Curves in spacetime violate Heisenberg's uncertainty principle

>If an object traveling through spacetime can loop back in time in a certain way, then its trajectory can allow a pair of its components to be measured with perfect accuracy, violating Heisenberg's uncertainty principle. This new finding involves a particular trajectory called an open timelike curve (OTC), which is a special case of a closed timelike curve (CTC), a theoretical concept that has previously provoked controversy because it raises the possibility of traveling backwards in time. source: http://phys.org/news/2013-02-spacetime-violate-heisenberg-uncertainty-principle.html#jCp Thoughts?

This is the end. >https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dark_flow >"We can only say with certainty that somewhere very far away the world is very different than what we see locally. Whether it's 'another universe' or a different fabric of space-time we don't know." The Universe is a living monster and we dwell in it like bacteria in our body. And just like those bacteria cannot grasp their world and have no idea what the internet you're just using is, we will never understand OUR prison, the decaying monster in which we live. The ultimate aim of the Universe is heat death, and we are the bacteria to achieve this by freeing energy. The human mind has produced the idea of a god because deep within we know that there is something bigger - an origin, a "father". Our fate however is inferiority, fear and total darkness.

So /sci/, how do I into maths? I've always liked maths and physics, but there's one little detail. I suck at them. I just don't know why, but I don't really seem to have the capacity to figure out in my own how to solve stuff that involves multiple mathematical concepts and properties, instead of just one equation. This is especially bad considering that I want to study chemical engineering, and obviously there's lots of maths and physics involved.
