i was wondering, is there any mathematical function to express a subtraction of a parenthesis minus one from itself or however it is to word this: f(0)=x f(1)=(x)-(x-1) f(2)=(x)-(x-1)-[(x-1)-(x-2)] Also, what if with each increase in n the power of each parenthesis where also increased by one.

Hey /sci/, just wondering what you think of the "difficulty" of the following problems ? Honestly how hard do you think the individual problem is relative to the average STEM program undergrad in the US ?

Will there ever be an imaging modality as good as MRI? >CT scans give you cancer >Ultrasound scans have shit resolution and requiring holding an instrument over the area to image >PET scans require a radioactive tracer and are limited to niche studies

Which nation so far has contributed the most to science throughout history? I think if you count the german speaking countries as one nationality then it's probably them. Albert Einstein, Kurt Gödel, Erwin Schrödinger, David Hilbert, Riemann, Leibniz, just to name a few.

"They now have evidence of quantum vibrations in microtubules inside the brain. This is what Stuart said on Jan 16 2014 after the discovery: "Orch OR is the most rigorous, comprehensive and successfully-tested theory of consciousness ever put forth. From a practical standpoint, treating brain microtubule vibrations could benefit a host of mental, neurological, and cognitive conditions." Suck it.

OBAMA ADMITS CHEMTRAILS ARE REAL http://www.chronicle.su/news/haarp-and-chemtrail-geoengineering-systems-protect-americas-climate-says-obama President Obama held a press release which denied Snowden’s accusation that the US was engaging in chemtrail and HAARP activity to the detriment of the climate in other parts of the world. WASHINGTON — Recent revelations from Snowden outlined a complex cloud weather modification project carried out by the classified High Altitude Auroral Research Project (HAARP) and the Jet Fuel Cloud Seeding Program (JFCSP) commonly known as Chemtrails. Wednesday, President Obama stunned the public in a press release admitting to decades of classified weather modification by the United States and promised to establish a permanent international independent oversight committee. President Obama shocked the world with candid words, “Hundreds of countries are carrying out weather modification programs, and we’re doing it better than any of them. However, this has been secret for too long. The American People need to know about what we do to make sure our children have something to eat each and every year. It’s true we need more oversight for geoengineering projects, so I’ve signed an executive order establishing an international third party oversight group to not only investigate for abuse but also to keep the public informed about new and existing geoengineering programs.”

PBPM PhD position

Hey everyone, I'm a bioscience engineer (finishing my MSc this year) with a major in Chemistry and Bioprocess Technology. I'm applying for a PhD position in physiological based pharmacokinetic modeling at the department of pharmaceutical sciences. I've had a lot of experience with different kinds of modeling projects and this seems as a new challenge that I can take up. I have an interview next week and I wondered if you guys have any tips and/or crash courses for PBPM modeling? In return, ask a bioscience engineer everything, I guess. Thanks!

The universe is getting larger over time. Therefore the Primordial Universe must be smaller than the observable universe. The furthest observable distances in all directions are of the primordial universe which surrounds the universe entirely. Therefore the primordial universe must be bigger than the observable universe.

Doing a study for a project on the effects and detection of benzodiazepine(date-rape drugs, roofies, etc.) In my research I came across pic related. The information is kept locked up pretty tight, but I want to know the chemical science behind detecting something visually in this way, compared to the archaic dip-tests that exist to the public now. Does anyone know about it? What I'm really looking for is the chemical that allows these cups to do this. It has little to do with my actual research.

Dear Mathfags, In this computer game the developers have introduced a "guaranteed reward system" for chance based rewards. The idea: instead of a fixed chance for a reward at every kill, your chance increases with every attempt so that eventually it becomes impossible to fail. When you succeed, your accumulated chance is reset to 0. I'm investigating the relation between the chance increments and the overall average success through simulation. Pic related. Does a system like this have a name? Is there an easy formula to go from chance increment to average success?
