Okay, so I'm taking a matlab course and I'm juusst getting started with it and I'm not used to the syntax yet. I'm supposed to create a 3 dimensional matrix with dimensions M*N*P and each ith page is going to be multiplied by i*10. So the first page of the matrix would be multiplied by 10 and the second by 20, etc. This is to be done without loops. So for creating a random 3 dimensional matrix part, I have this: M = randi([5 10], 1); N = randi([5 10], 1); P = randi([20 30], 1); Y = round(-10 + (10 - (-10)).*rand(M, N, P)); And I know that I need to have another matrix of the same dimensions (where each page would be composed of the number of the third dimension times 10) and multiply it by the first matrix. I have this so far: sz = size(Y) S = 10*ones(sz) ^ this creates a matrix of the same dimensions, all full of 10 but how do it get each page to be scaled by the page number. Any ideas? I was thinking of creating a 2d matrix and using reshape to make it into a 3d matrix but I'm not sure how exactly that would work either.

It's really frustrating to me how people... way too many people... don't believe in psychology or cause and effect. They want to be "normal" so badly. They want to believe that their uniqueness comes from their souls, they weren't influenced by anybody that raised them at all, and that they'd be the exact same person with any other parents. So they deny, deny, deny... it's like pulling teeth for 20 minutes trying to get to the root of their problem and why they hate their mom or dad. And they don't want to take ANYBODY'S advice! You try to teach them that people aren't born with personalities and babys don't know shit about anything... and they go, "no dat's not right, stupid faggot!..." or "DAT'S INSULTING!!" We should be teaching psychology in school and showing them case studies and statistics that show the patterns that arise! How can we fix anybody's problems and turn them into better people if they think that their personalities were set in stone, their negative qualities are inbred, and nothing will ever change them? So they're just going to be shitheads for the rest of their lives and go other and be shitheads to other people and to kids so they can make a new generation of shitheads.

I'm curious to know, are there good mathematicians on this forum who will be able to discuss high level problems, or just college level mathtrolls? Can anyone prove themselves to me by solving this problem: - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - There are some pairs of integers (n,m) such that both n divides m^2+1 and m divides n^2+1. The pair (1,2) is an obvious example since 2 divides 1^2+1 = 2, and clearly 1 divides 2^2+1 = 5. Prove that there are infinitely many such pairs.

No one outside of physics knows what a boson or a gluon is. Why are the electron, proton, and neutron seemingly sufficient to describe all of chemistry and chemical interactions? What are the applications of all these other particles? Will chemistry students in the future learn about quarks, bosons, other leptons, etc. as part of their basic understanding of the atom?

Anyone have any idea how to test if two circular distributions have unequal means, while including a co-variate (analogue to the linear analysis of covariance)? Question about the nature of sound and light. Now I know both are waveforms, but they differ vastly in the way they operate. But in either case the human eyes and ears have a limited range. That is, Audio frequencies between .2 and 20 kHZ is what we percive as Sound while EM frequencies between 400 and 789 THz are what we percive as sound. Now my question is, given an EM freqnecy set within our audible range, could we hear it? And vice versa. That is , say for example, an EM Frequency of 3 kHZ, in the ULF band of the spectrum, would we be able to hear that as an 8th octave or the like?

If you had a suit on for live preservation and another astronaut in a suit next to you, in a nebula, nix the radios, could you hear each other? Would the particles and atoms be close and dense enough for sound to carry?

Ok /sci/entists I had tough life while growing up, with abusive parents, barely qualified as parents. My mother inherited money from her dad when he passed away, and she never saved any of the money to put my through good university. Just like most people I am in community college. The community college I am attending is not even that bad its huge for a community college. But my question is I am working dead end job. I am working with this one associate who bitches more than a teenage girl. I am sick of it, and how can I put any effort into my engineering major if I have to work more hours a week then I put into school? Anyone else in this situation? If so, how are you dealing with it?
