What's the point of higher level math? Do people pursue number theory and such in higher education because it's fun? Or is it assumed that higher more complex models of physics will acquire higher more complex mathematical theories? Because right now it kind of seems like calculus and basic algebra is all that is needed for physics and really anything practical.
For instance, in my differential equations and linear algebra class, i loved differential equations, but in linear algebra we had dimensions. And we had 2d, 3d, which you can picture, but then we had sets of matrix which were filled with various equations. Obviously completely incomprehensible to the human mind. And, upon asking my professor what these were for, she said they were basically used only to prove other theorems - which of themselves were of no use than to prove more theorems. What's the point?

I tried it the "normal" way, i.e. how you learn it in class. She didn't get it.
Okay, that's fine. I understand that some people need to be able to visualize these kind of things in order to understand.
So I went ahead and fucking made a puzzle with her, like in pic related.
I cut out pieces with 1-3 notches / bits that would fi in the notches, according to their oxidation state.
I explained to her that (anorganic) acids always consist of n H+ ions and "a half salt molecule" with an oxidation state of (-n), while (anorganic) bases consist of n OH- ions and "a half salt molecule" with an oxidation state of n (in simpler terms, of course).
I then explained to her that mixing an acid and a base would result in the base's OH- ions and the acid's H+ ions forming H2O (water) molecules while the rest of the ions would form a salt.
All that I visualized by acting out the according actions with my puzzle pieces.
And she didn't fucking get it.

How much harder is chemical engineering compared to chemistry?
I'm almost done with my chemistry BA but with the lack of jobs, I'm transferring to a chemical eng. program.
I have 0 work ethics and rely entirely on Focalin to get shit done. The tolerance issue is lurking beneath the surface.
I didn't consider engineering until I got diagnosed with ADD and given a prescription this year.
I noticed some courses like Transport Phenomena, Heat Transfer, Reactor Design, etc. that's not included in the chemistry curriculum.
How tough are they? I thought physics 2 was a lot harder than organic chemistry, which was pretty easy.
