Hello /sci/. I'll be honest with you: This is the first time I'm visiting your board.

I want to ask you something: I wanted to study computer science for research and I asked someplace else about how can computer science influences our lives. All I got was "hurr durr code an app and influence the world because people will buy your app" kind of replies.

Really? Is computer science now "code stuff"? What happened? Am I mislead? I just want to dedicate my life to a "larger than me" goal.

Is Computer Science really swallow or are the people who I asked idiots?

can you prove that a program always works?
the first ariane 5 (4th june 1996) crashed because of a stupid programming mistake.
How can you prove that a program works?
What algorithms work best in what cases? etc etc

>shallow

Yeah, the thing almost everything in modern society is based around is pretty shallow.

it is, it's only about building tools for things that are less shallow
