I live in the United States. I am 23 years old and have a high school diploma.

What do I need to do to eventually become an astronaut?

It's impossible for you already.

No idea, but bumping for interest. I think you would need to be a scientist/engineer since scientists do experiments in space and engineers install new modules on space stations.

if you want to be an astronaut you would have to have joined the air force and been flying experimental jets for a long time. sorry bout your dream OP

Go back in time to when you were still in high school and study harder, graduate high school and immediately enter college on an engineering track or join the air force and fly experimental craft

In other words there is no way for you to do it, you've wasted too much time.

>didnt go directly to university or at least the air force
>too fucking stupid to go to NASA's faq page on astronauts.
>asks 4chan instead

yeah, you are gonna need to hit the reset button and try to roll up a better character this time... oh wait.. thats not how RL works.

It MIGHT not be too late. Trying to be optimistic, on average NASA astronauts are 34 (according to NASA). Your problem is going to be trying to compete with people who have a 4 year head start, which is a lot of flying hours or a BS and possibly a MS in science or engineering. If you're serious, you can't waste any more time. You've gotta focus and pretty much be best in class for everything you do from now on.

It's not that great anyways OP. I think astronaut is one of the most overrated dream jobs. Getting to experience zero gravity is nice but you can do that without going into space. Otherwise you spend a lot of time in a small ship with the same view and maybe you get to walk on a planet that is basically a big desert. I mean I understand the appeal of going to space but it's not worth all the effort.

With the way things are going, being an astronaut isn't going to be nearly as exclusive in the future. Cost-effective reusable launch vehicles will change everything.

There will probably be jobs in space for people like welders and pipe fitters, and other skilled laborers.

Oh, and lab technicians. There will surely be work for lab techs in space when launch gets cheaper. There are a lot of zero-g experiments to do for material science and biology.

Here's the deal. You are too old to get in the normal way that the other anons are describing. Your only hope is to make a business, make a shitloads of money, then buy your ticket to space, or even make your own space agency Elon Musk style.

>too old
That's completely nuts. 23 isn't too old for anything, short of particular sorts of olympic athelete or things with an explicit age limit.

You bloody kids, and your attitude toward age and time.

Do you even reading comprehension?
All other anons told you that you are old BECAUSE you've wasted time, while others were in university/air force. Not because how old you are.
