Anima, why the hate?

I'm new and I don't get the hate over Anima. I'm not trying to start anything, I'd just like to know why. I like the insanely customizable character creation and the anime/wuxia level of power without the exalted "gods on earth" feel. Why is anima bad?
Also, what would be a better game? I love games with insane complexities and lots of options, and if I like a game that is supposedly terrible, perhaps you guys have a few better suggestions.
Thanks for hearing me out.

You and Devriela look at all the caravans and demons as they enter the hellish city. You hate just sitting here while people are being tortured on the inside, but you have to wait until Ven tells you to help or they come back put. You ball up a fist in anger until you decide that the best thing to do is just sit it out and wait. For now you and Devriela need to talk about actually attacking the place without dying or getting captured. You dont know who or what is inside of that hellhole, but your pretty sure that you dont want to be caught off guard by it.
Turning back to Devriela, the two of you begin working on a plan that she illustrates with her hexagons by changing their color and shaping them.
"So boss, i was thinking we could do this."
She makes the city and then a bunch of red hexagons around it.
"You can survive in lava right? So the plan is that you go into the lava and use your control over it to make the whole thing go off. You basically would flood the city and melt it, ridding of the entire thing."
"Wont do. Im here to save the slaves AND kill the demons. If the slaves die then this whole adventure has been a waste of time. Not only that, but whatever we do we're going to need the bridge. I can teleport them all, but they all need to be in a group, and this is alot more slaves than last time."
"Well then waddya suppose we do?"
>Just wait. When Ven contacts me we can have a full on assault of the city
>Send you inside by having you hide with a caravan. If no one sees you, and you dont get caught, you could then attempt to meet up with Ven and Aijen
>I could go into the lava and attempt to take full control of it, but im not exactly sure of what to do next
>Your doing nothing. Im not going to risk you in this, even if you are skilled at fighting. Give me your best defense ward, and wait for me to return

You are Nikolaus Klossner IV, the heir to the Klossner estate. Your family, originating from Weissland in the frozen south, has recently fallen on hard times, having come out the worse from a war with another great house, named Soren. As a result of this war, the Soren family is holding your ancestral Quell, with no intent of returning it. You seek to recover your Quell and restore your family's power!
It has been a month since you began your journey to Westia to begin life as a Quell-seeker and rebuild the Klossner family's power. Due to poor sailing conditions, you have only just now arrived in Westia, although little occured to slow the ship down otherwise.
Looking around Westia, it seems to be roughly similar in size to the lands surrounding Haus Klossner. In Weissland, a settlement this large would be called a city, but here, it's a provincial town, albeit a large one with famous connections.
Westia is famous for two reasons, the second stemming from the first. First of all, Westia is close to the ruins of Old Hahn, a popular destination for novice diggers, as Quell-hunters are known. Secondly, it is the hometowm of Tycoon Wil, a famous digger who came to fame after leading an expedition to the Ice Megalith in Weissland. It is rumoured that he himself found his first Quell in the ruins of Old Hahn.
Looking around, Westia feels comfortably rural to you, which is just as well, given that it is likely to be your base for your first expedition. However, you have a choice.
>Do you want to travel to Thermes to seek an audience with Gustaf Finney?
>Or do you want to assemble an expedition immediately?

Your name is Sierra Beckhoff. You are the coolest person you know, and with one notable exception, you are probably the most badass. Basically you’re the kind of person who takes care of business and gets the job done.
After an extended adventure on another plane of existence, and a brief interlude in Canada, you are finally back in the Bay Area. You’re tired, you’re sore, and you’re pretty much ready to go home.
You whip out your phone and start walking back toward where you know the trail is, leaving your landwell behind you. You give Cassandra a call and get her to abort the rescue operation, and let her know where she can pick you up. In what seems like no time, you see Isaac’s jeep coming up to meet you, though it’s crewed by Cass instead of the demonbane.
The jeep pulls up alongside you. “Fancy finding you up here,” says Cassandra, smiling. “Are you ready to come home?”
“Yes,” you say, without reservation. You shed your chainmail and throw it in the back, and climb in to the front seat, and use only the minimum amount of effort required to answer Cassandra’s questions about what went down. She let’s off after a little, and you’re left free to veg out for the ride home.
You trudge through the house on your arrival, immediately heading up to your room to change your clothes and lie down. Cassandra would probably want you to try to make it at least to your later classes, but she doesn’t try to talk you around to it. You can’t deal with school right now, or anything else, and you opt for just being alone for a while.

You arrive back in Oreia after talking to Delax, somewhat puzzled. Delax doesn’t lack for courage but he doesn’t strike you as stupid either. He must have some allies, powerful ones if he intends to face off against the other gods, and from his reaction it seems unlikely that the Lord of Life is his ally – his antipathy seems genuine. Still, hatred and grudges can make for some strange alliances you suppose.
That’s a question to ponder for another day perhaps. You have work to, it’s mid-afternoon and you have ambassadors to see, and the Parliament will likely get up to no good if you leave them alone too long.
You stand in the courtyard of your home, the place you usually use for teleporting to and from.
A ways away you spot a member of your bodyguard on watch, she salutes you and takes to the air, no doubt to inform her captain of your return. You sigh, it seems you can’t go anywhere in your own realm without guards.
Well, you reflect as the flock of winged women descend around you, that’s not entirely true, your bodyguards will back off if you insist, they just pull faces as they do so.
