Hey, you've made me realise that so far with the 7th ed codices they've avoided power creep. Are any of them even top three?

We'll have to see if Kelly resisted the urge to superpower the Spiky Elves, of course, but last time he succeeded.

It's very hard to overpower the spiky elves, because they're built around being weak in a game with strong guns, and being fast in a game with board-spanning guns. There's only so many places you can hide. Especially from dual-heavy-flamer dreadnoughts.

Which only works if you can attack them while keeping yourself out of range - which you can't in a world with lascannons - or are strong enough to survive the results of your actions - which, barring a new breed of Battle Focus and a LOT of LoS breaking terrain, you aren't.

Also, drop pods: Still a thing.

Start with a fast skimmer, so you're only getting what armour it lets you - 12/12/10.

Proceed to give it a shield that turns penetrating hits into glancing hits on a 2+.

Allow it to get +1 to its jink save, so it becomes a 3+ jink.

Give it, for trivial points, a 3-shot twin-linked weapon that, if it hits, makes all other weapons twin-linked as well. At 36 inches.

Then give the shield from earlier the ability to drop and turn into a ranged attack. 60 inches of S7 ap-, at assault d6+1, pinning, and Ignores Cover. Oh, and because it's a shield rather than a gun, it can't be taken down by Weapon Destroyed.

Now make this a dedicated transport. One that can get Objective Secured. And that you can buy 5 guys for with 65 points.

It engages you how it wants to, where it wants to, and at whatever angle it wants to. It has complete battlefield control, and the only way to shut it down is to force 3 HP through a 3+ cover save and AV 12, which is harder than you'd think.

Actually, I beg your pardon. It's not +1 cover save while jinking, it's +1 cover save if it moved at all. So if you can get behind ruins from your opponent, you don't even have to jink for a 3+.

Also, all of this shit? 135. So 200 points for a wave serpent with 5 guys inside of it.

Scatter laser shoots 4 times.

Holo fields is +1 cover save regardless o moving.

It fires snap shots if it jinks

Putting it in terrain causes dangerous terrain tests so you better out it behind something.

Forcing 3 hull points on av12 with a 3-4+ is pretty hard. Unless you play tau.

Ok, my bad on the scatter laser. Holo-field is +1 if you moved last turn, as of p. 67, though.

Firing snap shots with a many-shot twin-linked gun and only needing a hit isn't too big of a deal. Nor is dangerous terrain, in all honesty.

And that's what I meant, is that it's pretty damn hard, more so than even you'd think.

I can't blame you, really. That said, there ARE good uses for Khorne daemons. If you can start summoning once a daemon prince gets Cursed Earth off, they make a very fine distraction - and if the enemy ignores them, they make a very fine blender for his units. Especially the Khorne dogs, who just zippidy-fucking-doo-dah their way to assault something 18 inches away in one turn.

There's nothing you can do that an opponent won't have an answer for. The most you're going to get is "Huh, I forget what those do"/"Well, I haven't seen one of those on the table in years". Seek out a 40k general or a 40k list thread, and they will help you with your quest.

Seriously? They're neat little transports with quite a lot of anti-infantry power, but they aren't anywhere near Wave Serpent or Riptide-tier.

I'm also going to throw in a nomination for Warp Spiders. Absurdly fast, not terribly expensive, reasonable rates of fire and the Monofilament rule kicks them up to st7 against vehicles. They're absurdly good against transports and other light vehicles, and maneuverable enough that played well, the opponent will struggle to get a meaningful shot off at them in return.

just because they don't have a big weapon it doesn't mean they are weak
for 55 points you get 12 poisoned shots from a small fast vehicle that also has a 5++
now, think about using 9 of these fuckers, taking some wracks to hold objectives (3 wracks for 30 points!)
and some trueborns with cannons/lances/blasters
everything not-vehicle can die if you shoot poison to death
