I like following rules.
I dont like gm's who home rule. Any gm who wants that should write it down on a piece of paper and hang it up where we play, or in every book we use.
Usually this pisses my party off as they just want to get on with the game or agree with the GM's foul changes.

I played with dozens of people I'd consider thatguys, I went to conventions for a long time.

How about a 40 year old Superneckbeard-hobo-looking guy who ALWAYS plays incredibly beautiful young girls ready for sex?

How about a pimply 15 year old who grinningly explains to you that his character is allergic to 20 elements that can only exist in the sun?

How about yet another fat neckbeard who would GM oWoD for newcomers, let everyone make characters from all the oWoD for 5 hours and then spends 30 minutes to let them kill each other because a Vampire, Mage, Werewolf and Fae can't fucking play together and he even told them they hate each other during character creation?

I could go on like this forever but, I'd rather forget.

You're being a wee bit obvious, Trolhan.

Like I said, I don't use coasters, and neither do I ask guests in my home to do so, because I'm the oldest of 4 boys aged 21-8 and these surfaces have already seen the worst. And at my own apartment, I don't have any furniture I'm particularly attached to.

But come on. Think a bit. You have gone over to someone elses house, in search of recriation. You are a guest, and hell, this person is your friend. If they say, "Hey, do me a favor? Mind using a coaster?"

The ONLY acceptable response is "Oh sure, no problem." What else are you going to say, "Oh, nah, I'm gonna spit on your wishes and hospitality, and actively damage (marginally) your possessions! AAAA HAAA AHAAAA!!"?

I see stories about That Guy/That DM and somehow tell myself "Wow... I could see myself doing something similar" and realize I've got potential to be That Guy so I'm kinda glad I'm not playing and just enjoying the stories here.

Multiple times. Most notably, someone who in every way reminded me of Comic Book Guy, except with glasses.

I think if you're smart enough to realize what would make you That Guy, you're smart enough to avoid it.

The win condition for PnP RPGs everywhere is "make sure everybody has fun." That's all you really need to remember, I think

That guy is a regular feature of my group. He scoops his dice and pretends he's crit if he fails a roll and always plays himself with an automatic firearm. (If this is not an option, he will complain.)

Annoyingly, he's a good guy when not rp'ing, and having confronted him over the dice-scooping issue before to no effect, the rest of us have resigned ourselves to just interpreting scooped dice as a failure, and giving him the most lacklustre 'success' possible.

That's not that guy, it's the GMs responsibility to make sure everyone is on the same page.

10/10 got me to reply and treat you as if you weren't baiting, If someone asks you to use a coaster, use a coaster. It's their fucking house and its simple common courtesy like holy shit what kind of autist actually gets PISSED OFF that they are asked to do something as simple as that.

Not THAT GUY, It should be the GM's duty to make sure everyone understands home rules instead of pulling them out of his arse.

I hate arguing. I come here because if I'm too long between arguments my cardiovascular system will shut down.

Every saturday my players and I all grab our respective books and sheets and sit down for a six hour argument during which we occasionally play rpgs.

I think I know the one in my group. At times he's pretty sensible but he's also...

"well the elves have all been put asleep and can't hurt us lets escape before their reinforcements overwhelm us." "i'm going to start killing the elves." "...why?" "they're worth XP!"

The one time I tried to game IRL, I got to sit there looking awkward while my GM argued with That Guy for literally two hours about why his blank statblock full of feats from Book of Exalted Deeds was inappropriate for a level 1 d&d 3.5e game

Never again

I played with some. Some were only misunderstood fat neckbeards, trying to tone down their creepiness and power ruling. They didn't succeed very much, but at least they tried, and I think I could trust them with a beautiful girl.

Those are simply unloved, mostly. I like them.

Some were monstrous. I remember one, in particular, a gross overweight fat neckbeard who howled on any subject possible. I discovered later that he was from /co/.

Those are assholes. Don't bother.

Fun fact. Almost any 'That Guy' I knew was overweight. Strange that.
