So, can we get a thread talking the legendary badass that is Vecna? I'm going to be running a game soon where the players are trying to stop a pre-divine Venca from ascending to godhood.

oh, an I guess this can also be a D&D god general or something

Enough greyhawk to make it work, a tiny bit of dragon lance with the majority being homebrew post apocalyptic 1600's europe.

Basically the Vecna is going to be going against an ancient dragon by the name of Helkira for control of both major and minor divine sites and items (which is going to attract the attention of many people). They're doing this to essentially strip each site of it's divine power and cannibalize it to consolidate it into a single divine rank of 0 (a process which will take about 10 years).

So the PCs are going to be competing with 2 BBEGs who are in turn competing against each other to achieve divinity

Vecna is the single greatest success story in all of DnD.

Don't believe me? Wrap your head around this.

Vecna is born a normal dude. No divine heritage or anything, everyday human. Dude becomes a wizard. A pretty damn good wizard. Lots of people never get that good.

Then he starts a cult and becomes its leader. Looking pretty good there, Vecna old chum.

Then he becomes a Lich. For most people this would be the endgame. Become a powerful undead spellcaster with a cult of loyal followers, this is pretty much top score, right?

Nope. Vecna is only getting started. He ascends to godhood and gets trapped in Ravenloft, the demiplane of dread. Aw shit, man. That is some shitty shit. No body ever escapes from Ravenloft, no how.

Vecna tells the rules to go fuck themselves, breaking out of Ravenloft and *Directly Into Sigil*. The City of Doors. The place where Gods are 100% not supposed to be able to enter without dying.

Vecna not only escapes from Sigil with his life, but disrupted the entire multiverse so hard that the rules of the game changed. That is right, Vecna's bullshit was the legitimate, in-game excuse for the changeover from 2nd edition to 3rd.

In the course of a single module, Vecna broke the "thou shalt not" rules of two different campaign settings and directly caused Caster Edition.

And he got away scott free, too.

Talk about from zero to hero, right?
