Since it's come up a few times about the cost differences between the two, I thought since I got my invoice for my AmiAmi December order to make a real 1:1 comparison. Pic related.

So you can see totals, including the AmiAmi better initial discount amounts to about the same as HLJ's cheaper shipping in the end. AmiAmi shipping option is EMS.

AmiAmi needs to learn how to package shit better. There's no justification for their EMS package costing an extra 1800yen. It works out the same, yeah, but that's a fuckload of paper for an extra $21.

You save a whopping 230 yen with fedex at HLJ, you pay 180 yen more with EMS. Are you mad because you aren't saving more money? Part of why AmiAmi keeps costs so low is their lack of box sizes and tetris'n during packing.

AmiAmi keeps their prices so low because they're making it up on the shipping, like an ebay scalper

The amount of paper they're going to use is not legitimately going to drive up the price of shipping something $20

yeah it should be good for 1:12 figures. These are good because they're modular and you can make them into different configurations.

I got it for a general background display, probably not for the Megaman or Thetis(definitely not Thetis). I also collect figuarts so I was thinking of using it for a display with them. Probably the Sentai ones.

It doesn't work that way. SAL moves on a space-available basis, basically when they happen to have extra room on the plane they'll throw your package in. So you could get a SAL package from HLJ in 2 weeks one time, and four weeks another. It's essentially random.

I just don't like HLJ's speed. For other people they get the fast HLJ, but every time I get slow hlj.

Amiami takes at least two days to ship out a EMS package, while hlj takes a week to a week and a half for me.

Amiami usually has cheaper items, that I actually want, while when I search hlj I just see the same sale shit, or old stuff that should be on sale.

HLJ has held out on bonus items, while amiami will still send bonus items for clearance shit if they have it.

I just prefer amiami, with the preowned section, and cheaper items by far i'm willing to take a slight hit on shipping, I just think of it as mandarake.

Anyway thats how I feel.

That's the smart and logical way to go, since there is no clear winner 100% of the time. Of course, it gets tricky when you're someone that imports a shitload of toys at once, like OP did.

OP here, I agree with this guy. I just posted this thread because people have been trying to do direct comparisons but had difficulty doing so.

I use both HLJ and AmiAmi, and HobbySearch and Mandarake too. I have no preference. There are good reasons to use any of those stores and good reasons to avoid them. None of them are perfect.

I will say though that any time you bring up shipping costs, defenders of the store call out 'poorfag', but seriously who here's so rich that they can laugh off $20? And if you're shopping at AmiAmi mainly because they have cheaper prices than HLJ, how exactly are you not then a poorfag too?

AmiAmi is a good store that has good prices but their shipping options suck. Saying that isn't being a poorfag, or being subjectanon, or being anti-AmiAmi, it's the truth. If they used DHL or FedEx they'd be the only store I used.

Why be so defensive of your favored store that any criticism needs to be shouted down? As a customer of the store, expressing that criticism is something you can do to maybe make the store better.

I'm just gonna point out, Amiami offers RSAL.

HLJ does not.

But (and this is a big but) HLJ's policy is that they don't offer Registered SAL because they will honor a refund if your SAL shit gets lost.

Seeing as I never use EMS because an extra week of wait time for a toy means nothing to me (and that extra savings goes towards buying more shit), I'd be curious to see how Amiami and HLJ's cheapo shipping compare.

Fanboys gonna fanboy.
Say anything remotely critical of their favorite store (didn't know fanboys existed for this) and they believe you said the store is complete shit.

Never been to a gaming forum, /a/, /v/, or anything Transformers related? Fanboy mentalities shouldn't be surprising.

BTW, i deal with my imports through my local import store. They don't get everything the month that it's released, especially things like Figmas , but at least I know whether to buy it or not after seeing the threads here and reviews online. So i don't mind the wait. Prices are usually $40-60 (lower if on sale), like Link goes for $53.99 there.
