Fair enough, I understand the aesthetics angle; I think some of the models look too hollow, but if you look at old instruction books from the 80s, there was a similar sort of sparseness in even such as LEGOLAND models, which I now understand to be for the sake of easily dismantling models (studs had clutch power back then that required hulkness to pull apart). With Technic, you probably want to consider weight, friction, and other forces, especially if, like me, you want to motorise shit. It's a wild ride if you like mechanics and want to see what you can do. It's also quite a departure from the "build from the bottom" method of System and old Technic - you have to think more three-dimensionally.

Pic related: Experiment in creating a chassis with all-wheel steering, drive and independent suspension.

>>4938091

Joke's on you, CCBS parts are mostly useless to technic builders. I only catalogue those parts because they live in a tub that hardly ever gets opened.

I don't consider it separate from System. Nearly everything I build ends up using Technic bits. Generally, it has less useful "surface" parts so I don't use it primarily, but it makes up a huge percentage of my pseudomechanics/greebles/support structure

>>
Anonymous 2015-05-30 05:02:00 No.4938149
>>4938125

The scrub radius problem stems from an apparent need to design wheel hubs more for looks than functionality (see the spokes vs. bolted hubs flipside phenom on most hubs).

Still, it's a fun problem to tackle (pic related shows a shitty "virtual pivot" idea of mine), but ultimately the parts are just too damn chunky to do certain precision things.

I'm surprised at how much Technic there is in themes like Chima, Ninjago and Ultra Agents. And it's all for the sake of providing functionality that I can't imagine would be possible with System parts. I think this is the main reason I'm so interested in the stuff.

I never really came up with a backstory for this dude other than that he's a bounty hunter and that no one has seen what's underneath his helmet and lived. It leaves things up to what the story needs, be him a robot man or an alium man. Speaking of helmet he should have a 1x1 trans red in his visor kinda like that mobile frame in the picture. He also has Power Miner legs and torso, but I can't be assed to remember which one it is, probably the explosives dude.

And yes those are OTC Tonfas. Wish I had a picture of him but I'm away for the weekend and won't be able to photo him until Sunday.

Can any AHOLs help a fool with some instruction booklet IDs?

There's this things where just about EVERYTHING LEGO makes has a 7-digit ID, no matter what the hell it is (it's usually on the back page of the book near the inventory or the shouting win kid). I have no fucking patience at all and I want to raep TLG's server for instructions. If I didn't live in a third-world shithole (UK) I'd presumably be able to get this stuff from the LEGO website already.

Agh, I was afraid of that. A brick palette update is long overdue, and as someone who designs stuff in LDD at the same time as building in hand, I'm starting to get concerned about that too. There are Power Functions parts from two years ago that still need to be chronicled. Damnit.

Lost interest around 1998/99. Just moved on to more 'mature' hobbies.

Got back this year.

My heart cries when I think of the thousands of Euros of Lego my dad gave away to welfare organisations. Then again, I rest in the thought that must have made so many children happy, considering what a ridiculous amount I had when I was young.

Now taking it easy. Only buying stuff I really like. I am at around ten sets now.

1998. I managed to get one Adventurers biplane set though and my brother got the Darth Maul vs Qui-gon set when Star Wars sets first came out.

I first got my interest rekindled in around 2007 when there were lego threads every so often on /b/ and then /toy/ was created, but never got an actual set until Atlantis and series 2 of the minifigs were out. That must've been late summer in 2010 I think? My mom threw out all my old Lego (not given away or sold, just thrown out. Ah, what a waste!), so I had to start fresh. In a way it's nice.

Thanks anon! I'm usually terrible at vehicles, but I've been trying to force myself to make at least one new vehicle for every episode. I don't have any modern wheelwells so I try to stick to four-stud-wide vehicles. That roadster has to be six wide to accommodate the pop-up headlights.

The last set I picked out before my dark age was probably a Spyrius set. A little later my mom bought my niece a small Paradisa set, but she wasn't at all interested in it so I commandeered it. I also ended up with a few Star Wars sets (the yellowfig ones) that my mom had bought and put away with the intention of selling later, but I opened them all. That's where I got the heads for the Wanderer, Rom, Jack, and Tratot.

Got back into it in 2006 after reading about Evil Stevie's Pirate Game and taking my tub back to my place from my parents' house the next time I visited them. I was going to try and run a game of it at a gaming store near where I lived, but it never got off the ground.

The retractable landing gear is great too. The rear wheels are very visible when folded up, but it makes them easy to get at so I'm okay with it.

Final verdict: 70 bucks is a steep price but this thing is a beauty. Easily the best jet Lego has produced imo. Plenty of room for modification too if you want to build up a nose gun or missile/fuel pods under the wings to arm this sucker to the teeth. Haven't done the alt builds but they look just as great. The jet is rock solid and totally fun to swoosh around. Definitely pick this up if you're liking how this looks.

totally different design, these are too far back

also this isn't ugly, so more points away from the F-35 comparison

I suspect it's not possible due to wingroot stuff, but can the 3x12 wedges on top be replaced with 3x10 ones to fit a red/white pair of 1x3 slopes on each side for proper striping?

Yeah, it's not a perfect F-35 (nor is it intended to be I don't think) but it's the closest resemblance I think.

As far as the wedge pieces, I'm not sure. Part of their purpose is keeping the wings locked into the fuselage. The wings slide into the sides and attach via clips, and then the wedge piece comes down on top to lock it all into place nice and good. Replacing those parts might negatively impact the sturdiness of the model.

I, for one, welcome our new Crystal King overlords.

In my personal headcanon, dwarves and rock monsters are bitter enemies - they are always after the same minerals and shinies, so they are always clashing over deposits of gems or whatever. In my epic battle (that never actually happened but shut up) the rock monsters took on the gnome moniker and joined the orcs, trolls, and skeletons, fighting against the humans and dwarves (and probably elves 'cept I only had a couple so they didn't really have a place).

Hm, don't have either of those for comparison, but here it is next to the Ecto-1 and Bad Cop's cruiser. At 27 studs long and 12 studs wide, it's a tad shorter than the Ecto, but much wider, and it absolutely dwarfs the cruiser.

I'd like to rebuild it at 8 studs wide, max, but I also want to keep it a two-seater. I also want to have the car cinch inwards at the center, and remain low to the ground, so it's restricting me a bit.

Awesome. I don't normally follow your Quests regularly. I love the pics shared here though.

I gotta take inventory of my sack for this year. It's very light and FRIENDs filled last I recalled. Hoping for some pre-4th quarter clearance.

if you place the door right next to the jumpers you can place the wheel piece to the left and the figure sitting on the jumpers on its right leg. Check how they did it for the simpson's family car. That's the build I'm using from now on.

Saw a kid in the airport last week with a blue lego mech with at least four golden swords coming off the back. Anyone know which set that is?

Show me how to make this in as clean a form as possible, and no, it does not need to fit any minifigs, so, keep it small and swooshable.

Depends. How many do you think you could fit for the lowest shipping?

Like, tell me the lowest shipping bracket and how many you could ship for that, then the next..
