What are places near the Bay Area that is good to live in? Considering rent, employment, culture, etc.. Basically places that are accessible and enjoyable for young people looking for employment.

Do you photograph your travels? Rather, is there someone here who does not? I rarely look at old photos, is it even worth it?

What's your favorite type of company when you travel? Do you prefer to go alone, with your bf/gf, with a small group of friends or with a large group? What kind of group do you think is the best overall, or relatively to the type of trip and destination? More specifically, what kind of company do you think it's the best for visiting foreign cities for the first time?

I was wondering if it is possible to move from east coast to west coast making above minimum wage(not by much) and find a place to live and work without knowing anyone there(essentially up root your life) successfully. and if so let me in on your experiences and give advice

Iceland. I just wanted to know some stuff about it. Let's say you were there for a month, staying in cheap hostels but going out and doing all the sights and activities and whatnot. How much do you think you would spend in that month? Is it like Europe where you should budget $100 a day?

Have you ever been on one of those fuckvacations? Go somewhere and basically fuck as many girls as you can in a week or two? If so, where? How many? What were the girls like? I know it is real easy in Brazil for example, but tell me your experiences.

So guys. is Chernobyl and Pripyat really worth it? For as long as I remember I have had a fascination with that disaster (maybe because of that video game) and soviet life in general. I so happen to be in Bulgaria, hitchhiking and volunteering my way around and was wondering if it was worth it turning my journey northwards. Probs gonna stop hitchhiking once I get to Ukraine, language issues and apparently everyone asks for money. Has anyone been there? Is it worth it? Any experiences with tours? would it be worth it going by myself? The thing is I usually get really tired of touristy things, but just wanna hear peoples opinions.

Hello /trv/, Having worked in the UK forever and finally coming into some money, I'm desperate to get away somewhere. I have my heart set on Iceland due to my love of seafood, Arctic climates/landscapes and a desire to see the northern lights. However, due to my fleetingly short holiday allowance, ill likely be able to spend no more than a week there. My question to you therefore, is how do I make these hours last? Theres certainly plenty of tours kicking about but I reluctant on the basis that the tours will likely be touristy, directed and full of noisy swarking humans (exactly the things im trying to avoid). Im not AGAINST the directed activities that some companies provide, its just a disdain for overspending and spoonfeeding. TL:DR: How do I get the most out of a weeks trip to Iceland?

I have some spare time from December 20 to January 4 and I want to go some place warm (around 7 days), preferrably not too far away from Europe. I don't want to go there to celebrate, just to get rid of the cold. What are good destinations, that won't be too crowded or too christmas-y?

Why is Gelsenkirchen so ugly? I am thinking of going to see Schalke 04 play football but what else there to do in Gelsenkirchen? It just seems so ugly and industrial. Anybody been there before?

Issues in India

Hey there guys, I'm soon going to do my first trip to India. I've been travelling for more than a year in total until now, including South East Asia, Aus/NZ and all over Europe (I'm European). I would like to ask you about certain safety/health/general handy issues that might help me during my stay. We (my gf and me) will be travelling down the West coast by train and possibly bike, starting in Mumbai and hopefully skipping Goa as I'm not into backpacking chavs on acid. What are you some things to mind? I think I haven't given all these issues a lot of thought since I've never had a single bad experience in all my travels and grew up relatively unharmed in a rather sketchy area. I'm aware of the general knowledge stuff that I'll most likely get sick and not believing cab driver's recommendations about that awesome jewellry shop. Started hearing a lot of bad stories from friends, though. What is /trv/'s opionion?

What's up /trv/ This is a Rio thread. I'm planning to visit some friends in Sao Paulo end of January and I'll be stopping in Rio for 3 days on my way in. I checked the "stay safe" section on wikitravel and it seems like a gigantic shit/mughole of a city (SP might be too but at least I'll be with locals there). Well I managed to find myself a nice little appartment in Ipanema for a reasonable price, but I'd like some advice and opinions on the city in general. Here are some questions : -Socially, how is it gonna be if I'm alone ? Easy to hit on girls ? Open to foreigners ? Physically ? Is it easy to meet people at a bar/on the beach/whatever ? -How is the hostel world like in Brazil ? -What are some touristy sights worth seeing besides Jesusaõ Christaõ statue ? -Non touristy ones ? -Favela tours, worth it ? Would going alone really be that suicidal ? I think that's all for now, I won't be there very long so I'm not really looking for museums (except if there's a truly amazing one), just to get a general feel of the city, see some of the main things and not-so-main things and have a few drinks. Thanks for reading !
