Ok, /trv/, I'm going to Paris for my second time. I posted here when preparing for my first time there a couple years ago and you were very helpful. Now, as you can imagine, I pretty much did all the basic attractions and this time I was hoping you could tell me about lesser known places and things to do, as opposed to the typical touristy stuff (I'm guessing locals would be really helpful here). First time I stayed there I really enjoyed small music joints like "Le caveau des oubliettes" and such... I kinda' like dark, bohemian-looking music joints and stuff like that (and if they reek of weed, all the better). Also, maybe some parks, interesting streets and places to hang out at night would be nice.

Where do British teens travel to besides Magaluf? Someone knows anything about Alanya in Turkey?

Hey /trv/ My boyfriend and I planning on going to SEA and teaching English for a year, maybe more. I've looked up a lot of information on it and it seems like we could manage to find jobs teaching English in Hong Kong having only a TESL, and if that doesn't work, we will try China. I'm a 20 year old American and he is a 24 year old Belgian, we are rather well traveled but have never been to Southeast Asia. I'm looking for information on the best way to go about finding potential teaching jobs. So far we are going to use some volunteer teaching which also provides us room and board in exchnge, as experience. Is this a good idea? We are thinking that this helps us get on our feet in the different country while also looks good to potential employers that we have done volunteer work for it. Are there any websites you would recommend for finding good jobs? Any major things we should be prepard for that other websites wouldn't let us know about? Did you find it specifically difficult to adjust to different things about the cultue, that you wish you would have known about before you went? Mostly I am just looking for firsthand advice from someone who has gone through this experience before. Currently we are in Belgium and we will be taking the Trans Siberian through Russia and down, then different methods of travel to get to whatever end destination we choose. Probably arriving around November of this year.

Workcamps general. Do you have any experience with that kind of travelling? Is that worth it? I'm planning to go on a workcamp in France/Germany/Czech Republic and I can't find relevant first-hand information. Also, what should I check and know before starting such a trip?

So in a few months I'm looking to backpack to from Oklahoma to Nebraska (no real reason I picked Nebraska other than never been there and feels achievable to get there in back in around two months), and I'm looking for any and all tips. Things worth seeing, traveling necessities, where to sleep on the road, etc. A little back story for those interested: Fairly poor, going through a sort of pre-midlife crisis, wanting to get away from everything I know for awhile and I like travel and wander about as well as go camping, figured it'd be nice to combine the all those things. Thanks in advance, /trv/lers.

Do any of you like to take a novel with you on your travels? Say, when you're waiting at a train station or at the beach, just having a nice read always brings joy to me on my trips-- even if it's just to kill some time :)

Hi im a 21 year old from Canada and my friend lives in the netherlands and is suicidal. Yesterday she left after an argument we got into and removed not only me but all our other friends from any online outlet she had and she said she was going to go kill herself at 1am. She lives in Zaanstad and I'm really worried. Ive tried to contact the netherlands police to ask anything but i cant get the number to go through. I use the extension 011 31 75 and then the police number of 0900 8844, but it is always turning up busy. What can i do to figure out if she is okay, i dont know where to go and frantically posted this in here, if this doesnt belong in here ill move it no problem. Please help me. I have no picture so i put that one

Chinese men desperate to travel and have half-white babies

Thousands of Chinese are now taking intensive lessons on how to make blonde white female 'friends'. They are taught on how to look, which plastic surgery to go for, convince white females on merits of a mixed-race baby and even how best to get them pregnant so that marriage is imminent. It is thought that a white wife and a pale skinned/round eyed baby is a status symbol and makes fellow Chinese respect you. >Try watching the first minute of this without cringing: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dg6T1YhJEjs
