I'm going to Ottawa for the weekend. Where should I visit? Where will make for cool photos, since I'll be bringing a good camera? I'll be around the Centretown, Parliament area and down by Carleton University to see the butterflies. I'm also a musician and look to do some busking and maybe an open mic.

Heya guys! So its been my dreams to move to NZ for years now, and with some planning and saving money, I'm finaly gonna go there to ''scout'' ahead. Mostly I'll be looking for some job opportunities, and meeting from some people from my country that I've met over the internet that already moved there (moving to NZ and Australia is very popular here, since this place, even thoe it has huge potential, is going to shit, mostly because of politics). What I wanted to ask is, if you have any suggestions and advices for me. Am I making a mistake? If anyone moved there aswell, was it hard for you to get a job, even thoe you didn't knew anyone there, especially if you are from ''english impaired' country like me? Thanks

What's your opinion of travelling without a completely comprehensive itinerary? I'm planning a trip to Spain this summer and it's really hard to decide when to leave one city and go to the next when I'm just sitting here in America. Do you guys just buy your plane tickets and then wing the rest of it?

Has anyone here ever taught english abroad? I know that you should get a certification (TESL or something like that), but I don't know where to get one thats credible, and will actually allow me to get a job somewhere. For background, Im a college student and I should have an AA degree by the end of spring. Could I do it without a bachelors? And if so how?

Just bought one of these on an impulse, hoping to use it while traveling. Do any of you record soundscapes/audio sketches while in foreign places? How do I into? I know I can't expect to run into groups of clapping, chanting Masai children everywhere I go, and I don't have the kind of sonorous BBC accent needed to provide commentary for that kind of thing, but I still think I can make good use of it.

Study abroad price point?

4 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
My 18th birthday was yesterday (I only stumbled on 4chan last night I promise!!!!) and I've been looking into study abroad recently for college. The state school I'm going to has scholarships for going abroad (I'll likely get a large amount from them anyway for my acronym test numbers) and the tuition is priced as if you were taking it at the university normally with no weird abroad fees. What I'd like /trv/ help me ascertain is cost of living in Europe for a student. Do most universities provide cheap housing for students? Can I qualify for any sort of state aid programs to help pay for my living there (I plan on working during school as well)? Where would /try/ recommend going for a year? I was considering South Africa as the cost of living would be fairly low and africa as a continent is pretty beautiful... For reference, I would be a 19 year old white male who isn't very stupid and have most of the actual schooling paid for. Thanks in advance for the advice, even anecdotes would be helpful

Questions about Cambodia for teaching english I am considering moving to cambodia in a year or so to start teaching English. I have a couple of questions about the plae though: >I have heard that teaching in cambodia wont give you no respect, do other esl employers view it as negative? >What is the saving power? as my girlfriend will have about 4000 euro of student debts to pay off? >How easy is it to get cannabis? I've heard it's quite easy to get from pizza places and tuk tuk drivers, but are there danger associated with the police? Also is it possible to buy hash or just bush weed? I know people will roll their eyes at the weed stuff, but I've smoked since I was 15 and I've spent the last 3 years living in the netherlands. I'm not really going to change anything, I just want to be able to experience asia without being arrested for having a bit of grass.

Visiting NYC for one week!

4 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey there trv! I'm visiting New York City for the first time with my GF, we'll be there for one week. We're not really into touristy shit, we're general nerdy/geek types, but manage to pass for cool whist doing it! I'm a city guy and I lived in Tokyo for a few years, so I can do the big city thing. What should I do for a real cool NYC trip given my relatively short time frame? I've got the USS Intrepid on the shortlist as well as a trip out to a NJ gun range so I can pretend to be a real American! That leaves a few days where nothing is planned. I've scored a free stay in an apartment just off Times Square, so that's my base of operations. Any and all suggestions appreciated!

is anyone here a permanent expat? I currently live abroad, but hate where I'm at due to the absolute lack of anyone who speaks my language. Is there a good location for an english speaker (I speak two other languages, but I doubt they matter at all) who wants to move there permanently, but still have access to english services? My plan would be to semi-retire, and work part time just to keep myself busy. Pluses: zero or no tax environment for semi-wealthy individuals hot skinny chicks who will suck my dick english proficiency won't get stabbed to death Low cost of living english language universities. I plan on completing a PHD just for fun. I have thought about singapore, but I don't know how picky they are about visa requirements. Thailand also seems to be very popular. Has anyone tried this?

As economies become more affluent, what happens to the priority placed on tourism and leisure? How do age and family structure influence an individual’s choice of recreational and tourism activities? Need some input. Want to hear other peoples opinion. Thanks
