Hey /trv/ First time posting here. Anybody have any experience living in Alaska? Was thinking about it recently. How would everyday life differ from living in CA besides weather. I love the outdoors, the usual. Pic Unrelated

Chinese xenophobes

Hello /trv/ I have the opportunity to move to China for a year and I'm seriously thinking about doing it. It will be in Harbin in the North which seems like a magical, cold place. What I'm slightly worried about is that you read that Chinese people (especially outside of Shanghai and Beijing) are quite xenophobic. Can anybody who has experienced life in the far North of China expand on this? Will they spit on me or just not want to hang out with me? Will they tolerate me if I immerse myself in their culture? Will they insult me on the street? I'm sorry if this is brought up a lot, I couldn't find a China general in the catalogue and I don't browse /trv/ very often

Hullo, I'm planning to go to Australia in February to work there for up to 6 weeks. Here's the catch though: I can't apply for working holiday visa, since my country is not on the list. Is there any way around that? Will farmers let me work on their fields and if they will, what are my chances to get deported?

Improper control

Have you guys ever gone over an improper control? It happened to me last summer. I forgot to put my keys in the metal detector, so it rang and then, they body-searched me. When I came back home, they told me to put my stuff through the scanner but the other people hadn't to. So I went over 2 police control, on my way to my destination and on my way back home while I was doing absolutely nothing illegal.

Would a visit to Mobile Alabama be any fun? I like to people watch and drink in pubs. I don't much care for the diversity experiences I have encountered in my past travels.

Iran

It seems all information online about visas to Iran is contradictory. I spend ages reading all posts only to be no more wiser than when I started. For those who have done the process before.... I (kiwi) and my gf (lithuanian) plan to purchase the visa consideration through an Iranian tour agent. Since there are no consulates in the UK we planned to pick Constantinople and have a 4 day stopover there enroute to Iran. My questions: >Is the visa consideration (at around €30 each) necessary and/or worth it ? >We plan to travel in February so im sure its enough time to get the visa consideration 'pass', but with that in hand will 3 business days in Turkey be enough to get the visa from the consulate ? >Whats the best way to manage accommodation from the point of view of the visa approval ? We'll probably stay in a hotel the first few days but then use couchsurfing thereafter, but I assume you will need proof of accommodation for the entire stay to get the visa ?

What is there to do in South Korea? I've lived here over a year now and am tired of sitting around the house. I'm black and speak very little Korean so it's a bit hard to network. I have no friends other than a very angry Korean guy and two guys I met from 4chan. Anyone got advice for fun stuff to do?

Can you guys tell me more about backpacking. Firstly what is it, do you just hitch hike and travel to different hostels? Why do people only do it in europe, people say not to do it in the USA. How much money do you need to do it?

I'm looking to buy a scooter or motorbike in China. How dangerous are these things and driving them? Car drivers here are psychos and I've seen lots of close calls, but no real accidents so far. However, my friends say they've seen tons of them. As a foreigner, will I be in constant danger on the road driving one?

Hands free recording

Anyone have any experience on hands free recording devices? Any recommendation on some that isn't too expensive neither too shitty? I think Google glass is a cool device but I would rather wait for for different brand devices show up and the competition bring new ideas and lower the prices.

So I am currently 20 years old, and I am planning to become a vagabond when I turn 21. This is not a rash decision, and I'm not talking about backpacking for a summer. I plan on spending years, this is what I want to do with my life. I've been planning this a while, and there is one major decision I'm trying to make and could use some help. I'm considering using a motorized bicycle for my travels. Something weak enough that I don't have to worry about tags, insurance, licenses, and other things like that. The advantages are fairly obvious, I can consistently move much faster than if I was walking, I could use it to carry my pack so I wouldn't have to, and riding would be fun. But there's also downsides; I wouldn't be able to hitchike and would have some trouble taking trains or buses (potentially slowing down my overall travel), I would be reliant on a machine and if it broke I'd be SOOL, and I would always have to worry about finding somewhere safe to leave it when I go in a building or am spending some time with others so it doesn't get stolen. What do you guys think? I could use some advice.
