Would $2000 be an acceptable amount of money to bum my way around a country? I know it probably depends on the country but say Tangier and up the Mediterranean. How long could I last?

The Shetland Isles

Hey there /trv/! For this years vacation my gf and i are planing on a trip to scotland again for the late summer/autumn. Last year we did roundtrip by rental car starting from edinburgh to the upper corner (oban and skye) passing through the highlands to inverness and then back again along the eastern shore. First of all it was absolutely wonderful, although quite rainy (duh) we were able to visit every location we wanted to see and simply had the time of our lives. Sadly there was a minor drawback . We did this tour in approxamately 8-9 days (i was driving the whole time) and because of the tight time schedule (prebooked B&Bs etc.) we weren't really able to get around meeting new people, finding good dinner spots and so on. This time we thought to minimize the distance and slow down our trip a little. So i was thinking about visiting the shetland isles starting from invernes taking a small tour on a few of the isles. I wanted to know if anyone here has ever been to the shetlands or if we have a few scotsmen around with a few insider infos on where to go and what to do, good hiking spots, animal watching, foto locations or festivities. I'd be really glad if anyone could contribute! Also general scotland travel thread if anyone is interested i will gladly share my traveling experience from last year

I spent the last 6 months backpacking asia and just got back home 2 months ago but am already fed up with it. I really want to go back but this time I would have to work. From what I heard the only way to get some work over there as a foreigner would be teaching english so I'm trying to find some information about that. However, most of the websites I could find through google seem to be more advertisement than actual facts, information or first hand experiences so I'm asking here if anyone has any interesting links or stories to share regarding eligibility, salary and where to apply. I'm not a native english speaker and have not finished my bachelor, is it even possible for me to find a teaching job? I have no doubt my english skills are sufficient to teach and I would pass any language test with ease. I'm mainly interesting in teaching in Thailand or Vietnam for a period of 3 to 6 months. Any and all input appreciated.

Hey /trv/, sorry in advance as i can imagine this is asked pretty often here but i didnt saw a thread. So me and some friends will visit Prague for 2 days before going to Liberec. I know its impossible to explore the whole city/tourist guide in that time, so what should not be missed? mainly looking for Parks, Sightseeing/great views, cheap restaurants and bars, preferrably not in full tourist mode though i guess this is an impossible thing in August. pic unrelated

Working holiday visas Well I've lived in Australia for 2 years and just got back from Canada for 2 years. Any other countries worth living in under a working holiday scheme? I live in England. Why did I ever come back to this fucking miserable shithole. Wish I stayed in Canada, yet again I make the wrong decision and come home to regret it. The only places I can think of is Japan or NZ. But neither are really viable options to stay for good. NZ is just as bad as England so I've heard when it comes to thuggish behaviour. And the fact the sun wants to cook you alive.

Hello /trv/ I'm trying to figure out the cheapest way to get to Miami from St. Louis. I have free food, bed and will certainly fuck the girl who invited me, but money is very tight right now and would appreciate any tips, tricks or stories of cheap travel.

Practical Questions about SEAsia

8 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hi, I'm looking for advice/help on a number of different topics. I'm leaving to travel SEAsia soon and have a few questions. Firstly, what is the best way to buy flights while in Burma? Is it best to book online before I get there or just buy them when I arrive? I'll be arriving in Yangon at 5pm one day, and looking to fly to Heho the next day. How should I go about planning that? I've booked my flight to Yangon but not my flight to Heho. Also, I'm hoping to do the trek from Kalaw to Inle Lake. Should I book/plan this online in advance or just do it when I arrive? I'm also hoping to book a trek from Luang Prabang and have the same question on that. My third question is this: to travel from Phnom Penh to Siem Reap, should I take the boat or the bus? I really wanted to take the boat but I've read some pretty horrendous stories online about the safety of the boat - and I don't want to be in any danger in the middle of the Mekong. Lastly, what would you recommend about currency and money? Should I take enough cash to last me the trip? I'm going to Cambodia, Vietnam, Burma and Laos. They all - from what I've read - accept US dollars. So should I just take US dollars with me, or some of the local currency too? That's a lot of questions I know, but they're ones which I'm struggling to find answers to online without engaging in a dialogue. And I trust /trv/ more than most places. Thanks guys!

Ok /trv/ I might be going to Vegas with my dad for 3 days in August. We would be staying at the planet Hollywood. Problem is I'm only 18 so over half the things to do in Vegas are blocked to me. Should I go I have not had a vacation in a while. Also the flights and room are cheep. One last thing. Is there any way to gamble at 18 in Vegas like on a computer in public or something? Thanks in advance. Also what can I do in Vegas at 18?

G'day guys, Aussie flying to New England for 2.5 weeks in a couple of days.I spent some time in Boston last year, although didn't get around to anywhere else, Will be based in RI, but have a car for the whole time. What are some suggestions of fun, underrated things to do? Will already be heading to a Red Sox game, to the Annheisur Busch brewery in NH, through Salem (Mass) and a theme park, swell as the RI balloons and BBQ festival. Looking for anything unknown which may be cool. Cheers guys!

Benelux

Hi guys, /trv/ I want to go this summer to the Benelux, more specifically to Netherlands with the interrail pass. I'd pick up the 3 day pass. What cities do you recommend me to visit or to avoid? Experiences? Any tips? I don't have much money, so I'd try to sleep outside or do couchsurfing when possible. btw, this would be my first tourist trip and it's possible that I'll do it alone.

Hey /trv/, what are some recs for good traveling clothing? Specifically tshirts, socks and underwear. Going to be in SA for a month or so, and I'd ideally like to have some stuff that can handle not being washed/only rinsed for a little while without becoming too foul. I have some great wool socks that literally never seem to need washing, but they're heavy winter ones. Any suggestions appreciated!
