Thought I'd share this as a warning (even though it miraculously turned out OK in the end). Happened to me a couple months back. Greentext for brevity.
>traveling southeast asia
>get really sick traveling for the first time ever when I get to Saigon
got quite sick again ~2 months later in Vietnam too, don't know what's up with the food there because I've eaten sketchy street food for months at a time in Latin America and Africa and elsewhere in Asia, never got ill
>in hostel bunk for a week, don't go anywhere but the toilet
>share dorm room with really friendly local prostitute (this place is sorta' dodgy)
>one evening two vietnamese guys move in
>one is a young twink, the other an older little guy with a pot belly
>they sleep in the same bed together
>give them some cheese I thought I could stomach but couldn't
>chat for 2 minutes, they seem weird but OK
>my bag is locked closed (as it always is)
>NOT locked to the bunk because I never left the room (THIS IS WHERE I FUCKED UP)
>wake up the next morning
I had almost a thousand dollars cash too because I was going to buy a motorbike, and loaded up on cash from Western bank ATMs in Saigon
Video is thief walking out the door no shits given with like 5 bags in the middle of the night, gave this to the police there later.
dickheads in hostels

the guy playing music out loud in the common room, and the guy practising "wonderwall" on guitar
the girl who doesn't do her own dishes and runs around yelling in the middle of the night
the dude who faunicates loudly on the bunk above yours
that one indian/bangladeshi guy who is like 35, speakes no english, and is only there to perv on girls
whoever keeps stealing my toothpaste, shout out to them
the cunts from contiki, busabout bandits, british lads on a weekend away; you guys are just bad people

I've been thinking of travelling to one of the Western Asian countries, maybe Iran, Oman, or Lebanon, I don't know.
Firstly, how likely is it that someone would ask you if you're religious? What's the best way for a non-religious person to respond to this question?
Secondly, would adhering to a pescatarian diet be difficult in this region? Is there a non-offensive way to decline meat that's offered to you?
Also, feel free to talk about anything regarding West Asia here, if you like.
