Travel Depression

32 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Anyone else ever get really, dangerously depressed while traveling? Don't get me wrong. I love to travel. It's one of the few things I've enjoyed without end my entire life. But for whatever reason, every time I'm abroad, I spend a good 2/3rds of the average day wracked with punishing dread and anxiety. I'm overseas right now in Japan, and I've been drinking so heavily to cope with it that my family has asked that I come home only a few weeks into what was supposed to be a multiple month trip. Does anyone else ever experience this?

I'm going to South America: southern Brazil, Uruguay, north of Argentina and Chile. Will it be possible to buy gas canisters for my stove there (threaded ones like on pic) or I should definitely take a gasoline stove?

Looking to Study in Norway

15 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey /trv/ I admit, I don't browse this board much, but I figured you guys might be able to help me out with this problem: I'm an American college student at a 4-year-school and I want to move and study to/in Norway. At the end of the Spring semester I will be a Junior (for anyone unfamiliar, that means 2 years later I'll get my first degree), however I am wanting to earn that degree in Norway (preferably in Bergen, Oslo, or Stavanger in order of preference). I have been busting my ass for months now gathering as much research as I can to pursue my goals of beginning next autumn, however I am finding a lot of really discouraging information. The number 1 issue I've encountered is that most programs want you to have already completed your 4-year baccalaureate degree and pursue your Master's degree in Norway, which would put me approximately 3 years away from being able to apply. I have found a few scholarships (such as Fulbright) that ask 2 years, a couple that ask for 1 year, but I haven't found anything that looks remarkably promising. I'm hoping someone here could offer me ANY advice in order to obtain my dream of GETTING THE FUCK OUT OF AMERICA. My goals: Learn as much Norwegian as I can within a year, preferably profficient/fluent within 2-years Study in Norway for a M.S. or Doctorate in Programming/Software Development Live in Norway for approximately 10 years Anything you guys could offer would be great. I'm willing to answer any relevant questions Thank you all in advance and I look forward to chatting over the next few days >pic unrelated

So I'm backpacking the Gringo trail from Mexico to Panama starting next week. It'll be a 3 month trip. I've never been backpacking before so I'm just looking for some general advice. Anyone been through Central America? What things do I NEED to bring and what should I do / avoid? Any general backpacking tips welcomed. >Pic related: my pack. Kelty Redwing 50. Should be in tomorrow. Right now my basic packing list is mat, sleeping bag, hedlamp, waterbottle, clothes etc. Let me know what's essential on this type of trip

Taiwan General

I'm going to be living in Taipei for the next 4 months. I'm here for a 3 month long Mandarin language course that starts next month. My mom is from Taiwan and I've visited here before, but this is my first time living here alone. My Chinese speaking is passable, but my reading and writing is almost non existent. Any tips on how I can best spend my time here or places to visit? Also, how would I go about getting Internet in my apartment? I'm currently using slow phone Internet.

Crossing the Pacific

For a while now, I am toying with an idea of travelling around the globe without use of any air transport. All the bits seem doable apart from one great mass of water - the Pacific Ocean. Does anyone have any experiences or have heard of anyone crossing the Pacific on a budget? I know that cargo ships take passengers but their prices seem to be above $2000 - and that is more than I am willing to pay.

Is it possible to visit all thre Caucasus countries at once? If so, how would you go about doing that? I'm thinking about the tensions between Armenia and Azerbaijan. If I'm not mistaken Azerbaijan doesn't allow a passport with Armenian stamp but the same doesn't apply vice versa?

I bought a 50 foot ketch and moved here to Mexico, just me and my dog! Wondering if anyone has experience in the Mazatlan area, or if there are any other expats -that aren't snowbirds- looking to hang and explore?

Hey /trv/ I'm from Germany and I want to visit with some friends Kobenhaven and Malmö. I know the one bridge in Denmark costs 33€ and the bridge between Den and Swe costs 46€. Summing up it costs 158€. My question is isn't there a cheaper way to travel ?
