Moving to California

Alright /trv/, I am 22 from Ireland and have just graduated with my second degree after 4 years of college, to build experience I have secured a Job in California for 12 months. Its in a town called Palm Springs, just East of LA. From what I gather Its an upper class wealthy town with a large LGBT community and mainly rich retired seniors, the area is quite expensive as a result. I have absolutely no idea about American culture, or you know how Americans actually work. My only experience is the tourists that come here to Dublin and they seem very friendly. To be honest the politics, the gun obsessions, the race division and the police all terrify me about Americans. How do I into America? What should I know about California or the area before I go? How do I not get shot?

New Japan General since the old one is past the bump limit: As always, feel free to ask about: >Travelling to Japan >Living in Japan >Teaching in Japan >Joining the Yakuza Also info on prostitution http://rockitreports.com/category/sex-in-tokyo/ Please check the /trv/ sticky before asking questions. It's filled with links to great resources, many of them specific to Japan travel. Please refrain to the old thread while it's still up: >>1033933

Ways to make a long flight bearable

14 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
In about a months time I will be flying Copenhagen-San Francisco, a 11hr 20min flight. To this date I've only flown inside Europe and the longest flight was like 3 hours. I find flying to be unbearable due to getting leg cramps and muscle spasms even if I rise up every 30 minutes and stretch. If anyone has good tips and tricks so I can survive my flight without going crazy I'd appreciate it.

Trying an experiment: Were has /trv/ been, as a community? Here is a starter-map. It shows where I've been, List countries I need to add based on where YOU'VE been. I'll update the map every so often. (I'm doing it at the country level because I do not want to get into "No, that fiddly little unlabeled district in Colombia is two up and one over from the one I was in..." I'll remove "trip planned" and the wish list on the first update -- this is ONLY where we've been.)

Hey /trv/, I'm going to London in two weeks with my girlfriend and will only be staying for three days. We found a great hotel next to Hyde Park, in Paddington. What do you recommend when it comes to tourist attractions? Everything is fine with us as long as it's cheep, basically! Pic related is my itinerary as of now. there are some holes to fill up in there. I was thinking about walking across Hyde Park to the Buckingham Palace (30 min according to google maps) and then making a round from Westminster Cathedral to the Trafalgar Square, after that, crossing the Themes on Waterloo and going south to the London Eye. How long does that take on foot? Is it too much walking? On the second day, I was thinking about going to the Natural History Museum, the British Museum (which I forgot to draw in on the picture) and st. Paul's cathedral along with the Tower of London using the tube. How long could that take? Where should we go and what to do after sightseeing before going back to the hotel? what attractions are worth paying for? Is there a good free alternative to the London Eye? Also, any other advice would be great. P.s. Google is my friend but I wan't to hear what you have to say!

Thinking about spending a few months in Belize this winter (January-April) Any hot spots? Recommended vacation rentals that don't cost an arm and a leg? Is it relatively safe or a kill zone?

It seems like this is a thread that’s kind of a combination of /mu/ and /trv/. I’m wondering if anyone has any experience at the Electric Daisy Carnival. I’m planning on going to the 2016 edition in Las Vegas, which, somehow, I’ve yet to visit in all my days. I’ll be road tripping from Minneapolis, stopping at the Grand Canyon along the way. I’d love to hear from anyone that’s made the pilgrimage. How was it? Regrets? Totally worth it? And probably most importantly, what did you learn? Meaning, what had you wish you’d known beforehand? For example, if it worth it to pay out the nose to rent a locker? Insight on the best ways to get there from your hotel? Did you bring anything into the festival grounds that turned out to be a pain or unnecessary? (blanket, backpack, etc.?) Anything you wish you WOULD have brought that you didn’t? I tend to guess wrong when it comes to shit I need/don’t need. Also, stories and general advice about traveling to, and being at music festivals are very welcome. Thanks, guys. I hope this is /trv/ enough!

Hey everyone, I am an American who has been teaching English in Japan for 4 years, and I plan on staying here permanently. If anybody has any questions about teaching English in Japan or any general TEFL related questions in general let me know.
