Baltic States

Hey /trv/, I really want to visit the Baltic States, mainly the capitals. I'm not sure about one thing though: are all of them worth visiting? I heard maybe Vilnius is not so interesting, than the other 2. Opinions? Thanks in advance.

sup /trv/, new to traveling, but wanted to go away for 2 weeks from December 19 to Jan. 3 i live in canada, and don't want to spend too much money. is new york city for 2 weeks too much? is it a bad idea because it might snow? what are some other places i can go to? i've heard hiking machu picchu is fun, but i don't know if it's too late to book flights and organize it. like, i feel like christmas is the time everyone goes away, so it might be packed also is going far away (crossing oceans) for 2 weeks worth it? i haven't considered europe or SEA because if i'm paying more for plane tickets then maybe i should try to do it on a longer trip. what are some locations that you would recommend for someone in my situation?

Bali: Is it really worth it?

10 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Yes, yes I know. Another Bali thread. Just bear with me for a moment. I'm on a year long working holiday in Australia right now and I'm getting towards the end of my year. I've heard a million different things good or bad regarding Bali so I just want to get /trv/'s opinion. I've never been to SE Asia and realistically speaking, this may be my only chance to do it. I've heard that Kuta is a drunken shit hole but the rest of Bali is amazing. I'm looking to go some time in December. I know that this would be during monsoon season, but I've heard from a few people that have gone in Dec that it usually only rains for about 2 hours a day and then the rest of the day is fine. So, what do you think? Is it really worth it, or should I go somewhere else?

Roadside Atractions

Next year I'm hoping to plan a trip to the USA to see as many roadside attractions as possible, things like "world's biggest frying pan" or "largest elastic band ball". The idea of such seemingly pointless things being huge draws for crowds in the states has interested me for years but I'd like to hear anyone's roadside attraction recommendations and stories to give me a few ideas on where to go and the best route to plan out.

Balancing wanderlust and career progression

I've always had the desire to travel, so after graduating university I took a year off to do as much travelling as possible. I managed to get to three different continents, visit around twenty different countries, and pretty much had the best year of my life. However, I was always very aware that I didn't want to find myself in my late 20s without any career options, so I applied for (and got accepted to) a postgraduate course that should allow me to progress in a genuinely interesting and well-paid career. I'm now on said course, and although I find it interesting, my plan for the next 5 years or so now just seems completely uninspiring. My country seems really boring, and I can't look forward to the prospect of working full-time 11 months a year, taking a few weeks off for holidays here and there, no matter how interesting the work is, or how much of a comfy future it will lead to. Anyone else had to make similar life choices? How did you find a good balance? If you chose one or the other, do you regret your choice now? Is there such a thing as employers giving you a shorter annual contract so you have time to travel?

Maritime Road Trip

My wife and I will be doing a road trip out east next summer. I have a rough idea of a route with some cities and sights we want to visit. Im here to get some advice on things to see, things you've heard of or seen yourself, famous or little known. We like historic sites, natural sights, vistas, unique lodgings, even some novelty attractions. Tell us about it all.

Is airbnb really that easy? I'm seeing daily prices that are like $10 to $20 and in or near major cities. It's hard not to think it's too good to be true. Is there a catch to any of this or can you really just live in someone's house for a couple weeks for like $200? Anybody have any experience + stories?

Travel to vietnam

Hey all, Going to be travelling to Vietnam (and spending a little time in surrounding countries) in mid November. From Australia, only ever been to England. Handling money was easy in England due to the fact I had an English bank account. I'm going to be overseas for a whole month so curious what the best way to handle money will be.

Travelling on horseback

Anyone who has experience with travelling with horses? I'm a pretty decent rider and also have some experience with hiking for long times, and I'd love to one day combine them. I'm planning to work on a farm with horses in a few months to get more experience on caring for them, but I'll need more information I guess. So, anyone with experience who would like to inform me about things?

Trans-Siberian Railway General

Hoping to take the Trans-Mongolian Railway from Beijing to Ulan Bator to Moscow in January. Staying a few days in each place, I want to spend as little as possible but am considering getting one of the better classes on the train. Planning the logistics of this holiday seem like a nightmare. I think there must be a million little things I'm not considering. Booking tickets that include stopping at places along the way seems especially complicated. Anyone done the Trans-Siberian Railway before and want to share their experiences or give some advice? When and where to buy tickets and for how much? What class is best? How to interact? What to expect? Anything?

What does /trv/ think of Sarajevo and BiH in general? I'm thinking of a March or April solo trip. Are the people as friendly as I've heard? Is it safe for a solo female? I know landmines are still a major issue and thus backwoods hiking is completely out of the question, but are guided hiking or snowshoeing tours a safe bet?

Guangzhou to Xi'an Airplane or train? I will need to go from Guangzhou to Xi'an. I have already booked a flight, but I am considering buying a direct train ticket. Is it worth it in terms of sightseeing? How are Chinese trains in terms of luggage safety?
