Do you think five and a half hours is enough time to leave Sciphol International, see some of Amsterdam, and return for an international, non-Schengen Area flight? I'm flying from Chicago to Amsterdam and then Amsterdam to New Delhi. I'll be arriving at AMS around 7:15am and leaving again at 12:45pm. I've passed through AMS quite a few times but have never had the chance to see the city.
I won't have checked bags and am a US citizen, so visas aren't necessary.
Does this sound workable?
>deboard, pass through customs (~45 minutes)
>purchase ticket and take train to Amsterdam (~30 minutes)
>explore central part of the city (~1-2 hours to be on the safe side)
>purchase ticket and take train to AMS (~30 minutes)
>pass through security (~20 minutes)
I wouldn't get to see a lot but I've been to Schiphol plenty of times and would like to escape the airport for a change.

Me and a friend want to meet up in Vancouver, or somewhere nearby in BC if its cheaper. They're from the US, taking advantage of the weak Canadian dollar for a trip. I'm from further up in BC, rural shithole.
They want the stay to be at least 2 weeks long, at the minimum, flexible. No set dates yet, just sometime in 2016.
How would you guys recommend finding a place to stay for that long for the two of us without paying out the ass for a decent hotel room? They want to pay for the room, I just think we can find a better deal than that.
Should we look into renting an apartment for one month, etc? I almost feel like that would be cheaper.
Also, we gon fuck a lot so privacy would be preferred. No shared hostels or what have you.
