Italy thread

I'll be visiting italy by myself for the first time this coming summer. Over this past summer I visited Japan by myself after learning some conversational japanese through rosetta stone. I got around just fine using that language, a bike, and an itinerary. Would it be easy to get around like that in Italy if I'm by myself? I'm not sure if I'll be hitting bars up or not. White 21 year old male if that makes any difference

Travelling to Prussia - any advice?

4 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hey /trv/, My grandpa passed recently, and in his will, he left me a substantial amount of money. He was a role model for me, so to honor and learn more about him and our heritage, I want to visit his home country, Prussia. Problem is, I can't seem to find airfare from our closest airport (Cincinnati, Ohio)... or from anywhere, for that matter. What gives? Also, what to do once I get there? Does anyone know if they have a national heritage center or somewhere where I can look up stuff about my grandpa and our family? Thanks!

Quebec City, CA

I'm planning on traveling to Quebec City in mid March of next year. Are there any places you've been that you enjoy or experiences you've had? I've never been there so any ideas are helpful. Mostly thinking of really scenic places to hike, and gorgeous sights to see. But any ideas what so ever really help. Also, what's the weather like in March?

I would like to do a citytrip in January. I have cheap flights to Vilnius, Riga, Copenhagen or Oslo. What would the best choice be (price/quality) to go to?

Help me don't hate me

- 34 y/o white male - loveless marriage, staying together for the kids - demanding career/work life - gotten a "7 days off" as bd gift interests - music; electro, industrial, ambient, braindance, everything in between and to the extremes - culture; modern art and cult - ex-stoner goal: - get away from the daily drag - feel "something" My current ideas don't go much further than Amsterdam (smoke, record shop, concerts) and London (repeat above, although harder to get weed as a tourist I guess). Budget is above average, but I don't want to blow all my savings in one week. Currently no travel partner, not looking to partner up with friends we have in common (I'll consider myself single for the week) but one week solo might get very lonely/boring (introvert type). Advice needed for: - locations & activities (keep it to western/eastern europe) - travel solo or not; how to identify a good travel partner - how to keep expectations down (my life's been on "pause" for 10+ years and I feel this is my chance to catch up on lost time)

What is the safest country to visit in South America? This will be my last continent to visit (minus Antarctica)

Anyone have any indonesia stories/experiences? It was one of the coolest countries I've visited and when I get the travel itch, that's one of the countries I remember. Mostly I just remember feeling like there was a sense of chaos and freedom in the country. It was the single most foreign place that wasn't dangerous that I've ever been and it's hard to wipe that from my mind.

Question yourself, /trv/, are you a TOURIST or TRAVELER?

Travel Companions Generals

Share your tips, stories, and experiences on getting local travel companions to act as tour guides and give you a local insight to an area. I just landed in Bangkok from Chiang Mai, and there was a young Lithuanian with a qt3.14 travel companion. I heard him remark "my brain is overloading with information" as she was sharing different things about Thailand with him. Also, she was massaging his legs while they waited yo get off the plane. Must of been good as they were the last ones off.

Travel Documentary

Hey /trv, after the results of this election and the immense amount of tension here in the USA, I'm thinking of taking another break from america and all of its shenanigans. It was my plan a few years ago to someday make a travel documentary and open peoples minds to the fact that there are good people in this world making a living in many different social and political situations. The basis for the documentary would be budget based unconventional travel, covering places where many people don't set foot because of stereotypes and negative premonition. If you would have any interest in something of this nature, let me know. If you think it would be a waste of time, let me know. Looking for some feedback, connections, volunteers, or recommendations to help make this happen.

What's the biggest adventure you guys have been on? Stories, advice, complaints? I'm currently planning a ~100 day backpacking trip through western Europe and would love to hear some inspiration from others who have done similar feats.

Good place to travel for 1 week's vacation?

Where is a good place outside of the U.S. to travel for about 1 week and feel somewhat satisfied? The gf and I have been looking at Honduras for the Copan ruins and the Whale Shark spotting, but it turns out we'd have to be certified in diving to actually go out and swim with those purple angels and the time/money/effort to get scuba certified for maybe one or two days of whales doesn't seem worth it for such a short trip. Has anyone spent a week or less in another country and felt like they were good? We spent 3 days in Cambodia last summer as part of another trip and felt like that was good enough. I'm not talking about a shitty place that's a waste of money, but just a place that after a week you'd feel like you were satisfied and saw/did some cool stuff? Preferably in the Americas or somewhere else that onlg takes a day or so to get to (we're coming from Oregon).
