Many people ask about whether or not the JR Rail Pass is worth it. It depends on your itinerary.
Plug your itinerary into Hyperdia to determine ticket costs, then compare to the below JR Pass options:
>7 day Pass: 29,110¥
>14 day Pass: 46,390¥
>21 day Pass: 59,350¥
Please check the /trv/ sticky before asking questions. It's filled with links to great resources, many of them specific to Japan travel.

Hey /trv/, my girlfriend's cousins got a job in Australia this year, she wants to go down there in either June or July. I'm a pretty well traveled guy, but honestly I don't know the first thing about what to do or see in Australia.
Her cousins will be in Melbourne and then I have a good friend from college that lives in Sydney, so we will probably do a week to 10 days in those two places. What kind of stuff would ausfags recommend I get on to? I would be interested in seeing some convict history or anything historical I guess, whatever the local food specialties are too. Can you still hold koalas down there?
I know both are big, cosmopolitan cities, so I might be too broad. I guess I'm looking to do or see some based things I can only do in Australia.

Anyone here a drifter?
>a person who is continually moving from place to place, without any fixed home or job
About 6 months ago, I quit my job and went on a 3 month road trip. It was the best experience of my life by far. Wake up some place new, explore, meet new people, try regional cuisine, get lost, stumble across cool places, and repeat.
Had to quit when I ran out of money. Been working and saving so I can do it again. once you get a taste of freedom...
