Macau

I can't recommend Macau too much as a tourist destination. It has a uniquely sleepy and nostalgic feel while still being convenient to get around and having all the amenities a traveller could want. It has exactly that faded, charming appearance that you've seen in old Hollywood movies set in places like Old Casablanca, Goa and Cairo. Food options are wonderful, you have great Cantonese food served in authentic, old-fashioned mom 'n' pop restaurants alongside Portuguese and not to mention generic Western offerings for the less adventurous. The casinos are there if you're into that, but they haven't changed the atmosphere of the vast majority of the city at all. Locals are mostly friendly, occasionally curt and businesslike in the Chinese fashion but are almost never hostile or unpleasant. You will be disappointed to find that sadly little Portuguese is spoken apart from in specific places, but with English you can just about get by. Hong Kong is of course also a terrific place, but in my opinion Macau's more leisurely pace and the nostalgic feel it offers makes it by far one of the if not the single best tourist destination in the Far East. I literally want to give it 11/10, it's that great. I want to shill for these people for free. What's your excuse for not having visited yet? MACAU NUMBER 1

What does /trv/ think of Norway? Want to go to a snowy European country this winter and Norway looks beautiful.

London, France, and maybe some other country?

This July, I've got two weeks in Europe, starting off in the UK. I'm planning to spend 5 nights in London, 3 nights in Paris, and either spend the rest of the trip back in the UK, somewhere else in France, or perhaps another nearby country like the Netherlands, Belgium, or whatever. I should mention that things I'm mostly looking for in this trip is not tours in really famous landmarks. Just kinda urban exploration and a few good and actually interesting museums. Hopefully some nature stuff too I hear an awful lot of negative things about Amsterdam, like it's a tourist trap and all that, and its the major thing thats dissuading me from visiting. Belgium has absolutely nothing of interest for me personally, but am I wrong about this and the Netherlands? Is it worth a couple of days stay or should I abort? I don't want any walking around in some small, lame ass city where the only things to do is just go in small museums and drink... If both of these places suck, what are some other cities/countries would you recommend thats nearby? Second option is after Paris, I take a train to Lyon or maybe even the Mediterranean coast. But I'd like to hear if either places are worth going to. Lyon seems lovely, though, but is it really? If rural France isn't a good option, then what about the rest of the UK? Edinburgh, York, Liverpool, Manchester... Are they a far better choice than France? More things to experience? Also, a few questions regarding France and French people, are they really assholes/unhelpful people that can't speak a lick of English? I mean, I'm gonna try to make an effort to speak the language with a Lonely Planet phrasebook, but would they get frustrated if I at least try? Or is it just Paris? apologise for the sloppiness, posting this while sleepy

What are your experiences eating out alone while traveling? I'm not really afraid of being judged, per se, but I still feel weird as fuck being served by someone else and in a room full of other people having a good time while I'm there alone. Most of my travels are solo so this is the only way I can enjoy the local cuisine at times.

Morocco in 3.5 days

Me and my friend are flying into Marrakesh on the evening of the 19th and flying out from Fez on the 23rd, also in the evening. We're a bit unsure of how to spend the limited time we have there. We're thinking of spending the 20th in Marrakesh and 23rd in Fez (arriving on the 22nd in the evening), but we're unsure about the 21st and 22nd. We have a few ideas: >spend extra time in Marrakesh and Fez >go to Casablanca and/or Rabat >spend 2 days getting to Fez hitchhiking through Errachida (on the map) The last option seems the most interesting, I saw some amazing views on Google Earth looking at the Sahara area of Morocco and it would be cool to experience the country outside of the big cities, but I'm not sure if two days would be enough for this as it's about 850km to get to Fez through Errachida. I'm considering maybe taking a bus instead of hitching but I'm unsure about the costs, we're trying to keep them low. General and hitchhiking Morocco tips are appreciated. Thanks

Looking For Someone Over 25 For Road Trip Through Scottish Highlands

Currently on exchange in Edinburgh, Scotland and am looking to rent a car with some buddies through the highlands. The problem is we're all under 25, and therefore renting a car is 5x cheaper. If anyone is over 25, in the area, and wants to help save money and make some friends just comment

Trapped In South Africa

7 more posts in this thread. [Missing image file: ]
Hello all So i have come to 4chan in need of help, not sure if this is the right place to post but i am literally at my wits end and dont know what else to do. I am currently living and working in South Africa (South African citizen with a South African passport) and I am trying to get out of this country. First prize would be Europe but Canada, Australia and New Zealand would be completely fine too. In order to get into Europe I need a job offer and then the company needs to sponsor me with a "work permit" which I can only get if they can prove that no one else in the country can do the job, the same applies for the other mentioned countries above as far as I know. I am a relatively skilled network engineer with quite a few years experience but I just seem to keep hitting brick walls and dead ends. I have spoken to recruitment agencies, have been applying for jobs for over 6 months and spoken to multiple immigration agencies and lawyers but nothing seems to change. Please if anyone can help or give advice or even point me in the right direction I would be so grateful. Please help I am fucking trapped :(

Hey /trv/, anyone have any experience visiting or living/lives in a major city in eastern Europe (preferably within the EU)? Looking for somewhere for a nice 3 or 4 night holiday for me and my girlfriend who both work minimum wage jobs and dont want to break the bank on somewhere like Paris or Barcelona. From what I can see Sofia seems to be cheapest in regards to plane tickets and hotel accomadation but not sure how scenic it is a city or how much there is to do there, anyone been there before? Open minded to visiting anywhere in the region, would just value a bit of first hand experience from people who've spent some time there. Thanks

Im planning to go to budapest in early april. Im thinking one week, is that too much? For context I enjoyed spending a whole week in Prague. I loved hostel One Home in Prague, is their hostel in Budapest equally good? Would also love to hear any experiences from Budapest, which districts are the coolest, which attractions, bars/restaurants/clubs you liked etc.
