my first time on this board actually. But I already would like to ask you something, rather giving advice:
I'm currently 19yo/turning 20 in August - and I already feel as if time's slipping through my fingers. I never had a stronger feeling of wasting my time than I do right now. I'm currently living in Austria - what a boring s**t of a country if you'd like some action. I don't say I don't like it here, but there's just really nothing going on for young people like me (I'm not really into electronic music, really enjoy real bands + bebop and jazz in general. also very much the english scene like the verve, oasis and so on.)
I'm currently carrying out my community service at the red cross instead of going to the military - and I'm asking myself right now if I should travel some places of the world now, rather than study first. I really don't know.
Would really love to see the USA since I've never been there before. Or the UK (been to Brighton and London already.)
My current thoughts are : I'll study Jazz Guitar and Popular Music first - so I kind of master the international language of Music. I'd really love to Jam with people all over the place.
> tl;dr: this is close to a question to /adv/ but what i really want to know where are some good places for someone like me?
>appreciating any suggestions. thanks

a lot of people have a fascination with summer-y, sunny vacations (Jamaica, Caribbean etc), but for me I've always loved the winter-y, colder places. I've decided I'm gonna start saving up for a trip to Alaska. I live in Texas (which might be why I prefer the colder states) so I've already figured that the flight will cost me around $600, but obviously there's more to it than the flight.
I'd probably go for 3 or 4 days so what kinda stuff should I consider doing? what kind of expenses should I expect? how much do I need to save? a couple thousand?
I'm open to basically anything so long as I have a good time.
