Quick question for you people at /trv/ Can you bring a HDMI cable with you on a plane? And if so can you put it in your carryon or luggage? Thanks!

Digital Nomadism

Hi /trv/, I've yet to see a thread about digital nomadism here, so let's have one. For those who don't know what I'm talking about: If you don't know what a digital nomad is look here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Digital_nomad In other words, digital nomads are people who decide to travel all the time- and working with the wonders of modern technology, as Laptops and public avaiable wifi. So I read a lot of blogs from dn lately and I am more and more interested in such a lifestyle. I'm going for a Work&Travel later that year and will probably start getting a cs degree later on, so if I'll take up a digital nomad lifestyle later (heck, it still takes like 5 years until I graduate and I can't say for sure if my desire to see the world is still as important to me as it is now.) what would be the career options in the field of computer science that don't interfere with it? The obvious choiches would be web design (as a freelancer) or software development (e.g. mobile app development), but apart from that I have no idea. Are there even career options that could get me a fix employment? I started with coding and doing web design about half a year ago and I really enjoy it. What I don't enjoy is the idea of working 9-5 everyday in a grey city and only living for the weekends and the annual traveling. Living an alternative lifestyle like digital nomadism is probably not something I'd do forever, but if I don't like it (anymore), there is always a way back. I know I'm pretty young, but my dream of seeing the world is strong. I have no illusions about the work as a digital nomad - I would probably work more and harder than with a conventional employment, but if that's what it takes, I would probably be willing to accept it. Would that lifestyle be an option for you? Why/why not?

moving somewhere before seeing it

Sup /trv/, I was wondering if you guys could explain why someone would move to a country before traveling around it. I mean, I could understand going from 3rd to 2nd or 1st world, but how about people that move from 1st world to first world? How do people even choose a city to settle down in, before seeing it? Sup guys. I'm considering doing a paid teaching stint over the summer in China for a month. I have the choice between working in Shanghai, Beijing, Nanjing, and Xi'an with full rooming and food paid for. I've never been and know jack shit about the country, which is mostly why I want to teach there. Which city would you recommend? Any anecdotes for the levels of fun, expensiveness, and chances to meet Chinese girls?

Hey guys, I'll be spending a few days in Paris, any suggestions on things I should do? Even the basic stuff, I have nothing planned. I would like to not spend too much money though. Also, how is the nightlife there? Any place in special I should check out? Thanks in advance.

Hi all. I have a long term plan of becoming a traveling English teacher. I considered taking a course right away this summer in order to qualify for some teaching jobs around the world, but have concluded that I will wait at least one more year, while I study something somewhere. I request advice on where. The location is ideally somewhere where I can actively train my English, i.e. a country with high English literacy or somewhere in the Anglosphere. I am rather cold and intraverted myself so it would be beneficial if most others were warm and emotional, forcing me to express feelings and such. I realize of course that there is human variation everywhere, but I believe the variation is clustered differently in different countries and cultures. I would also prefer a sunny place where there is no snow in the winter. Is there any place that suits this description?

Hey guys. I'm currently traveling through Europe until June. I'd like to find some sort of scenic beach that's quiet and beautiful. In the second half of May, I'll be in Greece, so I'd like to find one close by that's not ridiculously expensive. Any recommendations would be strongly appreciated.

going to LA for 3 weeks on my own

Hello, i'm going to Los Angeles for 3 weeks this summer and I'm from the Netherlands. I am 19 years and I am staying in some guest-family house. I am told that drinking alcohol is tough because it's 21+ over there. What could I expect when I'm there? >can I get laid?, i'm not ugly, a 8/10 guy >can I smoke weed, is it hard to get? I can twist my own joints but the green stuff is the only thing i need >can I drink alcohol without getting caught? Some tips would also do me good, thanks

Hey /trv/, this is my first time posting here. I'm planning on going on a cross country USA roadtrip in two years. This is basically what it looks like right now: http://www.planyourroadtrip.com/#/map/usertrip/9b7dace1e0bccabe That isn't gonna be the end of it though. For about 10 years I'll continue roadtripping across the USA. I've got a bunch of guns (safety) -- any shady places I should be wary of? What I'm asking for is general tips, how to keep safe, American customs, etc. I'm travelling in pic related if that makes a difference.

I figure this is the most appropriate board, so I hope someone can help me with a question about the German language. I'm answering the question 'Du kochst heute, nicht wahr?' negatively. I'm a little confused about where to put nicht in my response. Would it be 'Nein, ich koche nicht heute' or 'Nein, ich koche heute nicht'? Hope someone who knows the language better than I do can help. Thanks in advance. >pic not related

Anyone here taught English in Mexico/Central America/South America? I'm a 22 year old Bio major with interest in research/grad school down the road. However I woke up one morning and realized how much I'd like to teach English abroad. I've always excelled at English and love languages. I've taken 3 years of Spanish and only need a couple of months in a Spanish speaking country to get fluent. Any thoughts or advice?

I'm going backpacking in Europe next month and I'm worried about socializing. I'm just worried that I'll be totally lonely the entire time, I mean, I enjoy solitude but after a day or so with a decent conversation I start to feel shitty. I have plenty of friends back home, but I don't know about overseas. I party back home. Are hostels super friendly? Is there a guide for socializing in these sorts of situations?

So, I just got to thinking. Having lived on the outskirts of Stockholm all my life, and knowing how incredibly hard it is to get an apartment here(often have to queue 2+years for a single room student apartment, 6+years to a standard one). Shouldn't it pretty much be impossible for foreigners to move here? How do they do it? Do they queue for an apartment even though they live abroad? I'm not even sure you can do that. I mean, I can search for most cites on google and find apartments for rent. But not Stockholm.

Listen here /trv/ it's probably been over a year since I've been on 4chan. I hardly ever checked this board even when I was on here but now that I've returned I need you guys more than ever. I'm sure there is already a thread about this but I'm doing this anyway. The story goes: I fucking hate my job, the daily grind is going to result in my suicide or someone's murder. I need to get the fuck out and make a living traveling, I've done some research and I'll say this, I'm not going back to school because, no. I just need someone....guidance or pointers or something. Google can only give me so much and I don't know anyone IRL that travels, likes to travel or wants to travel. Apparently all they want is a full time job and a house with a god damn picket fence and all that shit.

Hello /trv/ I have a question for those who live in Michigan. I'm planning to move over there within the next decade with the intent of teaching as a career. I'm not sure as to exactly where, but I'm aiming somewhere North. My question is, how is the French speaking population there? I'm thinking that since its so close to Canada, I might want to start learning French in order to be a well rounded person while over there. Any other suggestions or Michigan protips would be lovely as well. Thank you!
