Is it better to book Hostels in advance or should I appear without having made reservations?

Beach Thread 1.How does one take anything to the beach without it getting stolen if one's alone? 2. I've scuba dived twice in my life but that was some time ago, can I ask people renting me the equipment to run me through the basics again or is that frowned upon? 3. Where does one find a quiet place to use a hammock and if so how does one put it into place without tools?

Hey /trv/, in a few days I'll be going to China for the first time for 15 days on a business college program. Is there anything I should know before hand? We'll be going to Shanghai and Beijing, as well as: >the Great Wall >Ti’ananmen Square >the National People’s Congress >the Forbidden City >the Summer Palace >the Temple of Heaven >the Llama Temple. I've been advised not to drink the water there, but I am going to have the hardest fucking time not eating all dat street food.

Is it possible to go from Portugal to China by land? I'd say Korea but NK prevents that. Russia doesn't really have any means of land travel in Siberia unless you take trains, and the middle east is currently a really volatile region. So can it be done?

Are sites like workaway.info legit? It seemed a bit too good to be true so I googled it and found a forum thread with lots of 1 post accounts praising it, which made me kind of suspicious.

Looking for apps to use for adventure travel (read: outside of data/wifi coverage). I find CityMaps2Go (iOS) pretty good for street maps. Use MotionX GPS when hiking, although to load in routes I have to get them off my computer. Haven't found anything affordable / free that's good for translation / as a phrasebook. Ideas?

Question about returning to one's country of origin. If I'm outside of the US, say in Buenos Aires, and I'm making my return flight to Chicago. On my way the plane stops in Atlanta for a layover. I'm still with the same carrier, but Atlanta will be my point of reentry even though Chicago is the destination. >Where will I need to go through customs, Atlanta or Chicago? >If in Atlanta how much time should I allow in my layover for reclaiming bags and going through customs and reentering security? Thanks in advance travel, I appreciate the help

Prince Edward Islander here. Is there anything to do in Newfoundland? I want to try out backpacking this summer and won't be able to go anywhere to faraway because of budget. Could do anything in Atlantic Canada and maybe Quebec or some of the North-eastern States. What should I do? Very open to ideas.

I'm going to Poland for 4 nights, arriving on Wednesday evening, leaving Sunday afternoon. For one day we are going to Krakow but the rest s of the time will most likely be spend with Warsaw. Do you guys have any suggestions for attractions that are somewhat unusual or more activity, than sightseeing related? So far Old Town, royal park and science centre sound interesting.

Got sort of a dilemma here. >Be in Detroit right now >Want to get to Toronto by end of today >have option of train, waiting for someone to answer my rideshare ads, if not that, then hitchhiking >train leaves at 5:45 >it's 12:45 >won't be able to cross bridge until about 3:30 >1 seat left on the train >can't fucking decide On one hand, I have money for the train, on the other, I've always wanted to hitchhike, but, I've never done it so I don't know the ins and outs, how long it's gonna take, where to sit, no backup plan, however, I don't have a place to stay in Toronto until Wednesday, so if hitchhiking takes more than a day, it would probably work out in my favor (sort of) Fuck, I keep leaning to one side or the other, can't make a decision. I hate being this indecisive. Halp. Pic somewhat related.

Hullo there /trv! It'll be my birthday in January and my girlfriend and I want to get to the US for a week or a two. I've some questions if you could help me with them. Ideally I'd like to stick to the North Eastern states (Vermont et all), purely because they actually look really bloody nice. I'm not bothered with the big cities, I just want something 'American'. >Can I rent a car easily? (I'll be 22, driver for 3 years) >If not, what modes of transport would allow me to traverse the places I want to get to? >Is my plan wise? Will we be able to amuse ourselves in these places?
