I've been entertaining the thought of riding a bicycle from Connecticut to California. I come to /trv/ to ask, how would I go about this? I am completely inexperienced with any sort of travel. I understand I would need plenty of money for food and hotels, etc. But I'm rather clueless when it comes to everything else. Is it safe? What routes should I take? Has anyone done this before here on /trv/? Any tips and general advice is very welcome.

Driver's Licence in Europe

Hey everyone, I recently moved to the south of France, and I am interested in buying a scooter. I've looked high and low for the prerequisites for purchasing a scooter and driving with a foreign driver's licence, but I keep getting different answers. I currently have a Californian Motorcycle and motor vehicle licence, and I also have an International Drivers Permit issued by AAA. I plan to purchase either a 125cc or 150cc scooter, not for highway use. Does anyone know this French regulation? Thanks!

Travel Site information General

I found a useful site (in my opinion) that talks about travel destinations with safety tips, health, things to do, history, etc. and it looks to be well maintained. I would suggest adding it to the sticky. Heres the site link. http://wikitravel.org/en/Main_Page Feel free to use this thread as a travel information thread. Post links to sites you like or use, info-cards, etc.

shengen question?

How to get around the shengen limit Hey guys, I fucking love Europe and this Shengen thing's killing me. I like to explore countries intimately and limiting myself to 1 month in each country isn't enough for me. Is there some sort of loophole? I'm Canadian and can't get any ancestry visa or anything like that. It's getting harder and harder to jump to other countries (ie I was going to go to Croatia for my next one, but now they're part of Shengen). Fuck man, I just want to travel through glorious Europe Here's a picture of a fat pigeon in Eindhoven

I come bearing OC! Went hiking at Devil's Den state park in Arkansas (I'm here on a job for a few months). I only saw about 5% of the park tho today, I saw these crevasses and I just had to climb down a look around. Spent a few hours dodging bats and doing some freeclimbing on the walls. I recommend it!

hey trv I'm planning on applying for a visa to Russia for my upcoming trip to Europe at the end of September. my problem is that I have no invitation, what's a way around this restriction? I've thought about doing some workaway or equivalent but haven't found any that are short term and honestly I just want to visit. I've found visa sites but the pricing is something I'm not willing to shell out. what's the secret?

Hi guys, so I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question so please bear with me. I applied for my UK student visa a few days ago as I plan on going there to study, as far as I know my application was complete and I gave all necessary supporting documents etc. The visa officer told me the processing time is about 20 days but I got a notification saying my documents are ready for collection about 5 days later. I'm slightly worried about this. Has anyone else had a similar experience?

Dual passports: I'm a first-gen American, currently living in America. My mother was born in France, and I'd like to get a French passport in order to travel Europe and the Schengen Area freely, and to also travel to seedier countries where showing a French passport might be more welcomed than an American one. How do I apply for this, and is it a smart idea?

I will be going a trip to France and Italy next summer, spending a week in each. I already speak Spanish fairly well so I will be alright in Italy. My question is would it be worth learning some conversational French between now and then? I'll be going to Paris, Versailles, Lourdes, Nice, and Monoco. Also, how would an 18 year old American do picking up girls in France? What about in Italy? Anything else y'all reccomend I do?

Anyone been travelling in Africa? I'm looking to do some volunteer work after I finish school in less than a year. I want to get back to basics and all that, see how it is. What are the best countries to go to? What are some things you have to look out for? What was your experience?

I'm a guy that likes to wear panties and I'm flying for the first time this week. I will only have carry on and I was wondering if the TSA will do something embarrassing like taking my panties out of my bag when they go through it.

English teacher here, I'm considering packing up (I live in Aus) and heading overseas to teach, sometime next year. Does anyone here have any recommendations as to the best non-Anglophone countries to teach in? At the moment, I'm considering the following: South Korea Japan Ecuador Turkey Russia Germany Saudi Arabia Any advice at all would be much appreciated. I have a BA in linguistics and will be taking a CELTA course in November. Pic unrelated.

I'm a 22 year old guy who lives at home, work at a shitty medicine technology lab and I just wanna get out of here. You see this isn't the first time I've been thinking like this. When I turned twenty I was so sick of my hometown I just packed my bags and moved to spain. One problem, I didn't have more than 600 euros with me so who am I kiddin? I had to go home after two months. 6 months later after working as a salesmen I saved some money and went to work in Cypryus. The job was steady pay and I met some pretty cool guys. We went to Malta and all we did was just party, party, party.. So with no money left after 6 months I had to go home. Again. And now I just wanna go to thailand so fucking bad.. I train MMA but the gym is located pretty far from where I live and I have no drivers lisence. So that's my biggest issue. My mom wants me to get my lisence and move out ASAP. And I just wanna grab my stuff and move to thailand, because this time it's gonna be different. I know a guy who can get me a job and I just wanna train and work. That's all. Plus I have a good salary at my current job so this time I won't leave with 600 euro :) Sooooo what do you guys think I should do? Should I stay and work for some months and get my drivers lisence or should I go to thailand asap?

How's the Canadian west stacked for farm work these days? I wouldn't mind going there for a year (or longer) and work as a farm hand, preferably on cereal farms but I have some experience with dairy farming so that might be more suitable. Anyone done something like this? I'm a Swedish national btw.
