I'm going to do a trip report because fuck it, I just got back and am still a bit dazed. I'm a 29 year old urban professional in Philadelphia, and I took the trip with my wife who is a scientist. My company gives me 10 days of vacation per year (next year I get 15 after 5 years of service), in addition to 6 personal/sick days. This year, as I do every year in differing configurations depending on ticket prices, combined five of those days with Thanksgiving break. My wife and I left after work on Thursday the 21st on an overnight flight to Lisbon and returned this past Monday on a day flight from Rabat. Cost about $890 bucks, which I guess is pretty dear for a transatlantic flight, even if it was multi-city. We booked 3 months ago. We arrived in the morning in Lisbon, transiting through and getting our Europe entry stamps in Charles De Gaul airport. And of course it was cloudy and grey in France, but that made the petit villages look all the more stereotypical and cute from my window seat. I asked an airport guide where to go and he acted a little bit dickish as I was warned on /int/ Parisians would be, but nothing like what I'm used to in Philadelphia, NJ or NYC so I kind of felt he was a little bit beta. The jet lag was setting in but we were still all good. Lisbon has a subway station right at the airport, so we bought 24 hour tickets and headed to Rossio station.

So i don't travel a lot and am not fully equipped. I am planning on taking a trip to Italy and Greece and need a good idea of what things to bring. More specifically a good camera to take pictures of the attractions. Any help would be appreciated.

English in japan

So /jp/ mods are dicks and deleted my post right away and referred me here. It looks like you already have similar threads but i am hoping for more specific help. So I really want to teach english in Japan but im having a hard time finding a way to do it. I've done a fair amount of research into programs like JET, AEON etc. but it turns out that everyone wants a Bachelors degree (this is due to the visa situation from what i gather). In order to stay more than 3 months i need some type of visa (eg. working, student, spouse). In order to have a working visa for english teaching you need a BA. So basically i am wondering if anyone knows of any way to teach there without getting a BA. Because i know there are a lot of people there who just want someone who can speak the language and dont care about a degree or fluency in japanese. My situation: >getting Associates of Business at end of December and want to teach in japan for roughly a year or more starting within next few months >3 years of Japanese from the best highschool teacher (i know enough to get by) >have a few thousand saved up but would need income once there >already looked through most FAQs including the ones on the embassy's site >would get a student visa but dont have enough for tuition tl;dr is there a way to get a visa without having a 4 year degree/japanese wife/etc?

I'm making a trip to Pittsburgh for a week, partly to see if I want to move there. What are some essential Pittsburgh things to do, see, eat, etc. What's the best way to assess a local lifestyle?

/trv/, when you go travelling, do you prefer going solo or going with friends? Or going solo in the hope you will hook up with someone and travel together? After numerous holidays away with friends in Europe and one solo trip to Japan. I've realised that I don't think I could ever go away with anyone again. I love the freedom of being able to do whatever the fuck you want, when you want to do it. All my friends think this is weird and I can kind of see why they would think that, i.e. choosing to be alone for weeks on end rather than have company. I also think going solo encourages you to speak with strangers and try to socialise in new places. Anyone got any cool stories about being abroad and alone for the first time?
