>The 62-year-old Groundhog Day star was left surprised when a thief ran into him after robbing the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi. Bill says: “I saw this man running towards me with a bag in his hand. Then he suddenly stopped when he saw me and asked me if I was Bob Harris, the character I played in Lost In Translation.
>I told him, ‘Sure, why not?’ Then he started telling me how much he loved me.”
>The impromptu conversation was all the time the police needed to catch up with the guy, and they tackled him in the street while he was distracted by Murray. It turned out he’d only managed to grab around $5,000 from one of the bank’s cash registers after threatening staff there with a knife.
>Tomi Tanaka, manager of the Bank of Tokyo-Mitsubishi, threw Murray an award ceremony the following day as a way of saying thank you. I think Murray was a little surprised (as are we) as to how this went down, and understandably is shrugging off the hero tag saying it’s the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department people should be thanking.
