Is it bad that I kind of liked Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force?

I really wish there was a game that would encompass something like this:

-Guild is an entire ship, everyone has positions for the ship and AI for various other things.
-Ability for first or third person.
-Space combat and planetary missions
-Space combat involves three primary attributes: ship combat through movement, weapon systems, etc, ship maintenance through managing internal systems, doing repairs, etc, and dealing with boarding enemies/raiding enemy vessels through first person MMOFPS combat

Shit would be glorious.

i think the main reason it got so good was because archer was such a perfect insufferable faggot boyscout for the first two seasons. then earth gets fucked up and he has to go into an uncharted, hostile, incredibly dangerous area of space with (literally) the weight of the world on his shoulders.

the longer he's in there, the more he has to make moral compromises and the more he has to see his crew suffer and die. you can see him being slowly pushed over the edge by this, and him having to compromise his morals in order to save his planet makes him a much stronger character imo

Wesley Crusher was such a strange part of next gen.
Captain hates kids, but wants to fuck red doctor so lets her son an acting ensign at 13 years old.
Wesley then falls from grace in the academy, gets to make out with Ashley Judd (I envied Will Wheaton for a while, but not anymore) become space jesus, but never appears on the show again.

Such a weird storyline.
Potentially the least important star trek character ever on the best star trek series.

Well I know that. But Q goes a few steps into it. Putting all of humanity on trial for what turns out to be the entire series and identifies himself as god.

That other races simultaneously evolved equal or near equal control over the universe makes the title of "god" moot... shy of identifying who's worshiped by who.

Enterprise was all about missed opportunities. The setting was good, there was so much interesting stuff to make episodes about. But the writers didn't have any idea about good story telling or even how to utilize Trek elements. Then in season 3 they had rebuild the entire premise to get anything going. And in season they finally got some writers and producers who knew what to make of a 22nd century Star Trek setting, but then it was already to late.

The best character is Quark the Ferengi criminal.
The black captain is super white-washed, his son jake is the beaver, Colm Meany is everyone's bitch and Odo is silly to never use a phaser.
I'm counting down for Warf to come into the show, and Dax has been built up as a sexy woman by all the characters but she has the emotional range of Keanu Reaves.

idk. It's not a terrible show, it's just not next gen.

But I can't find a justification for a fixated plot involvement over the inane concept of a temporal cold war. That should have been relegated to a 3 episode that retconned itself. I mean I hated the Effect before Cause time paradoxes that popped quite often in the first seasons of Voyager.

Enterprise was awesome. Voyager beat the love of Trek out of me so thoroughly that I never even bothered to watch ENT until 2007

Seasons 1&2 were ok with some good and some terrible episodes, but then it turned into some of my favorite Trek ever. It was a good old-school science fiction adventure show that didn't take itself too seriously, like the 60s one.

Nerds need to get over the theme song and the "too advanced" imaginary spaceship

Christ yes. Watch TOS at the very least. TNG's first two seasons are unwatchably shit, but it starts to pick up with season 3, and gets progressively better from there; though personally I've always thought the mediocre/bad to fuckawesome ratio for TNG always skewed more towards the former, probably because even when TNG is bad it's boring and shitty, where when TOS was bad it was hilarious, campy, and colorful. DS9 is by far the most consistent of all the Treks since TOS; watch that shit from the beginning, because the first 2-3 seasons consistently good with occasional greatness ("Duet", "The Wire", etc), ride out the more meh stuff, and once you hit about the mid-point of season 3/beginning of season 4 it blossoms into one of the best genre shows ever put on American television. Voyager is uniformly mediocre to shit with occasional bright spots. Enterprise I haven't seen yet and can't pass judgement on.

legacy is a terrible game stock, but i moded the hell out of it and basically redid the combat from scratch and now it looks as canon, and is as balanced as possible. to bad i finished doing this after the community for it dies. oh well, i still enjoy it.

sto is a fun game, and free now. though they didn't get a lot of canon things right, its still fun. the player base is terrible at it though, because the pve is so terrible and teaches them how to play wrong. pvp between high skilled players is currently my favorite gaming right now.

i liked how enterprise sucked at first, i didn't want a competent crew that acted like crews from the future that had basically everything figured out. i wanted them not to know what the fuck they were doing and to get in trouble because of it. when the show became more serialized, like ds9 became, it got much better sure. the captains in both those cases having to throw out their enlightened morality to get shit done was great too

they could have handled the crew sucking at what they do better, the writing was poor. but in a way, it sucking felt appropriate, being the writers fault or not. it had the same effect, kinda.

The Cardassians were clearly Space Nazis, but with a slightly more Orwellian overtone.
Likening them to Israel is also valid, but their relations to Bajor are somewhat different. The Cardassians just expanded as an empire once a military government took control and everyone despised them for their aggression; Israel is a creation of a semi-religious supremacist lobby group and can [or could] afford all the aggression it wanted because they had the unwavering support of a massive world power. It also helps that anyone with a shard of criticism is automatically a Holocaust-denying anti-semite.

>>155268940
Star Trek Online actually tries to fix the continuity, but I doubt if it is canon.
What they came up with was that the TOS era klingons were a side product of genetic experiments carried out in 2409, then brought back in time. They use the genes of the quarter-klingon child of Paris and B'lana Torres to eventually fix it somehow, but it still takes a long time.
Apparently it had some grounding in Voyager itself, as the quest references an episode when the child's DNA is used to fix another genetic fuckup.

>Why would you do that to yourself?

Recently I've decided to watch every single Star Trek episode ever made. I've watched TOS, TNG, DS9, ENT and now I'm up to VOY.

And no, but it is a 2 parter, and it is pretty damn cool.

Besides, the ONLY thing I hate about Voyager at the moment is Chakotay.
Him and his gay ass animal spirits can suck a dick.

Because diplomacy and reason in static environments don't work.
Negotiation, language and wording are all about dynamic changing circumstances and nuances.
Games aren't really made for interconnected complex problem solving.
It would also be difficult to program compared to any other game and most people would hate it.

If they ever did anything with Chakotay it could have been cool. Indians are one of the few mentions of actual human culture.
Janeway is worse in my opinion, she does not have an established, built-up style of captaining, she is unfit to command, erratic and often unreasonable. Paris was also harmed by not being that same guy who got Wesley almost fired from the Academy 9should have gotten a medal if he succeeded), not to mention the bland vessel of impotent betaness that was Kim.

What that show needed was a planned out storyline like with DS9. Enterprise was out to explore, so an episodic style was more than aappropriate. A specific, more planned story would have worked better with the basic idea of the show.

But some guy has burns all over his face, they just check his pulse and announce he's dead instead of calling a medical emergency and transporting him to sickbay. You'd think if he had burns in his eyes, he'd start screaming at the top of his lungs too

Or the yellow shirt who had her heart explode, The Doctor didn't try anything to save her like put her in stasis and make replacement organs, but Janeway tries fucking CPR on her.

i actually liked early voyager better, it actually felt like they had limited resources and no back up. then it just became tng in the delta quadrant with good cgi so they could have space battles more often. the fact that they were stranded and running low on resources should have effected every decision they made, it became a non factor though

Picard had an artificial heart long before the days of Voyager.

You'd think that any member of the crew with the exception of the main characters is completely expendable. Like there are no important jobs on a starship other than the ones filled by the primary cast.

I thought Chakotay was pretty cool and the guy playing him was a really actor but the problem was they rarely ever explored his character. Even shit episodes like Tattoo, Timeless and One Small Step had their bright spots when he was on camera. The Fight, Resolutions and whatever episode it was where he was recruited into an alien war were pretty good.

Star Trek to me is a grand arc of character stories. Especially the original cast movies. Sure, you have Khan and a fake god and Genesis but at the end of the day it's about brotherhood, getting old, bridging species gaps, trust, and love. TNG did it a little less but still admirably. I gave up after that.

A great ST game needs to let the story have the quiet moments. Most modern devs wouldn't bother. A nice long winded RPG of sorts would suit it well. But you have to make it solo. Even co-op would take away from the decisive leader needed. Give us new and interesting worlds, stories that are out there but grounded in real science. It can be done.

Side note: fuck Abrams, the series is dead to me as long as that hack has control.

I definitely agree about the storyline, it REALLY needed to be a full fleshed out story, not just fillers and the occassional "OH LOOK WE FOUND A WORMHOLE GUIS OH NO IT COLLAPSED" episode that was story related.

Kim is okay, in my opinion. I like the relationship between him and Paris; but sometimes I feel they might as well have renamed it to Star Trek: Harry Kim gets lost.

Also I refuse to like Chakotay for the episodes that just shove in his culture, into the delta quadrant, just -because-. There's an episode where you find out that an alien species is the reason native americans believe in Sky Gods, animal spirits, and love the land and all that stupid shit.
That was just NOT needed. At all.

To be honest I'm okay with Janeway. She has her moments that are pretty fucking sweet, and usually disregards means of getting home and fucking shit up if it means violating the Prime Directive, UNLESS said person pisses her off, or fucks her around, then she sort of gets mad, I guess.
She's kinda hot when she's man. Mmmmmmmmm.

Supposedly the original plan was exactly that, to have the ship get all fucked up and such, similar to the Galactica remake and how the years where represented on the ship. Plus the struggle because of low supplies.

But the people in charge didn't allow that so the show ended with the ship looking like it just rolled out of space dock.

Without the retarded forced hardass stuff, I assume.
Again I love them, and many others do, but at this point making a Star Trek game without any show in years to back it up is a risk in itself, and one where there is this weird organisation many people might not know about playing the key role, well, I don't exactly blame publishers about not rushing to the idea.
DS9 was almost a decade ago too, so it is pretty faint in people's memories.
Still, it would be really fucking awesome.

White washed doesn't even mean anything in 23XD5.
Unless you feel he needs to dress more like guinan or some shit (who isn't even from earth and wasn't even from modern day earth in the series). The fact that he's a federation officer implies that he's not going all niggalo on you. The fact that earth is supposed to be a fairly redeemed and and significantly less violent place as well as properly educated and well fed means there's no reason for people to be idolizing ignorance and stupidity while slinging nigganometry.
There zero reason to really him to be anything other than what he is. Nor does his skin color mean he should have been raised any different. I suppose Worf is whitewashed too? Cuz the federation was oppressing him not letting him act like a screaming warrior nitwit killan faggets like the klingons do? It's called acting like a decent human being.
